As the Las Vegas mass shooting evolved, it was somehow determined 4 highly trained LE would do whatever it took to stop the shooter. One was a sniper. This is 4 out of hundreds of LE in the area.
The 4 did not initially know the exact floor or location or number of hotel rooms occupied by what they assumed to be multiple shooters let alone bombs.
I would imagine the Resource Officer and the initial 3-4 first responders had no idea how many shooters were in the school, where the shooters were or what type of guns/ ammunition/ bombs they had.
Boward Cty Sheriff said their job was to confront the shooter and kill him, seemingly discounting the unknowns the first responders faced.
Had the Resource officer and then the first responders entered the school many things might have happened including, but not limited to:
Unknowingly running past the lone shooter who had dropped his gun and ran out the doors with other students ( which he did), or
Encountered the shooter and killed him, or
Accidently shot one or more innocents in the smoke and chaos, or
Been shot.
As it was the lone shooter escaped, early on. He dropped his gun and ran out the door with other students. He headed to Walmart for a drink and then McDonalds.
In the meantime, an army of LE was not and could not be certain if there were multiple shooters or if any remained in the school.
I cannot imagine the incremental chaos if some teachers and/ or students had been armed inside the school.
This isn't about these 4 guys. It's about almost any 4 guys in the same situation, sheriffs or not. We've seen it happen over and over. Unless you are a front line soldier, seeing this and living it everyday, you won't be able to deal it. And even trained soldiers sometimes can't.
It's foolish to hope that putting cops in schools can solve this problem. A cop in a school might have to deal with a kid killer once in his lifetime. The vast majority never will. When it does happen to the unlucky few, they'll no more be able to deal with it than the kids will.
The Coral Springs department went right in, they didn't have a problem with it. It was the Brower County Cowards that had issues.

Most LE and armed and unarmed civilians and military, for that matter have never and will never be exposed to an active shooter (s) situation in the midst of a mass shooting.
This “ allow teachers who want to c/c to do so and give them a little bonus” thing that Trump threw out is goofy stuff.
No Federal Law prevents c/c in a school. It’s a state/ district issue. Most schools will not experience a mass shooting no matter if teachers c/c or nuns are running around with rosaries.
If this school or any school had taken reasonable precaution to detect and prevent a gun or bomb or knife from entering the school, the likelihood of a mass shooting would have been greatly diminished. And that’s the price of our so called freedom.
All the more reason all LE should have a plate carrier and select fire weapons available. Rather than stand around outside they could have been throwing on the plates and advancing.
The 40 or so officers from the Coral Police Dept didn't seem to have any problem charging into the school....once they picked their jaws up off the ground and got over their shock that the lead agency wasn't going to lead the way.
Safety in numbers?
No one knew how many shooters, the location of the shooters or the arsenal of the shooters.
Thousands of students were in the halls and fleeing the building.
1 officer vs the unknowns?
4 officers vs the unknowns?
40 officers vs the unknowns?
As it was it took hours to clear the school and make certain no shooter or student or teacher had been overlooked.
And improvised weapon. Assuming that help has not arrived and your location is known then attack instead of relying on prayer
