for example... the new tariffs on solar

President Donald Trump’s recent decision to apply tariffs on imported solar panels was met with strong reaction in Washington, reaction that was very much divided along political lines. But the initial evidence shows that the tariff is working.

No fewer than nine companies have announced manufacturing expansion plans in the U.S. market in the past several weeks, all of them motivated partly by the tariffs. The biggest is JinkoSolar, a Chinese manufacturer that said it is committing $410 million to build a plant in Jacksonville, Florida, that will employ 800 workers.

Equally exciting, two American-owned companies, SolarTech Universal and Solaria, are planning to expand U.S. production in the coming months. The planned expansions demonstrate that effective tariffs can work, giving new life to a struggling American industry and strengthening the economy.

State-planned and managed economies always fail. Look at the USSR and Venezuela. Tariffs always fail.

So much for the free-market and capitalism. Way to debase the currency, too.

When you will Trump apologists finally admit he's a leftist who's basically the Orange Obama?
NO NO NO -- Trump doesn't give a royal patootie about it all -- someone has been in his ear and given him the idea.

LOL...

If he was a true builder/developer he would know that the guys on his site are cringing at this idea because it means more costs for their projects.

The U.S. has never been a free market. It's always been a State-managed oligarchy. The events of 1913 (income tax, Federal Reserve) put the nail in the coffin.

I'm talking about the U.S. government. If I as a consumer prefer Chinese goods due to lower cost, or if I as a business owner prefer Chinese goods due to lower cost per unit, then it is my decision to do so.

If American solar, tire, steel, or rare earth mineral companies cannot compete with the Chinese, that is the market at work. Consumers will decide.

That's what gets me about the Trump lovers--they don't realize he's a left-socialist and he's playing them for fools.

Manufacturers that need steel and aluminum will be all on board. Higher material costs will make them more competitive.

What you said previously was "free market", it is not and never will be a free market unless both sides are playing by the same rules. Those cheap Chinese products may provide you a short term benefit but ultimately it's a race to the bottom for your children and grandchildren. The Chinese government has a singular focus on long term goals.

Futhermore this is not just about you being able to buy cheap Chinese products, it's about the Chinese being able to buy American products. I don't know if it is still the same way but at one point it was so difficult to get software into China they were pirating it out of necessity. They literally could not buy a legal copy of Windows.

The only win is for the future of China.
