Wow, more than 6 times as many adults in the correctional system at any one time in Georgia than Utah or New Hampshire.

Seems like the South though in general is socially downward trajectory though so I can't say I am surprised.

The South from its inception was ALWAYS a hotbed of criminality. I was reading a book about the Civil War, and I wasn’t shocked to find out that crime rates in the South before the war were off the charts. Murders were practically routine.

That said, I don’t know if comparing Georgia to Utah or New Hampshire is fair. They aren’t comparable places in any respect.

About half the population will be victimized by violent crime more than once. Males are somewhat more likely to become victims than females. ... The victim's sex and race ap- pear to have a greater effect upon the lifetime likelihood of victimization for robbery than for other crimes.

I really suggest Thomas Sowell’s “Black Rednecks and White Liberals “ for an interesting take on Southern culture and it’s effects on black Americans.

I really find the numbers on this PDF to be high.

See https://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbo

It is estimated that 3 in 10 persons
will be victims of a completed or at-
tempted robbery during their life-
times. The victim's sex and race ap-
pear to have a greater effect upon the
lifetime likelihood of victimization for
robbery than for other crimes. Blacks
are almost twice as likely to be robbed
as whites; males are about 70% more
likely to be robbed than females.

About 3 out of 4 people will become
victims of a completed or attempted
assault; 2 in 5 will be victims of this
crime at least twice. Males are more
likely to be assaulted than females, but
the likelihood is nearly the same fot·
blacks and whites.

Again don't believe it despite it being a government website.

Your comparing GA data to UT and NH? Maybe demographics come into play here.

Why did you cherry pick those two states.

You've really got it in for the South right now, lol.

Why not bring up Oklahoma? As many as 1 out of 10 people there have a felony record. It is a fact that Oklahoma imprisons women at a greater rate than any other state, by far. A lot of women there love to commit felonies by shoplifting and fooling with illegal drugs.

For whatever reason the south has a lower IQ, lower wealth levels, and higher crime. All these things tend to go hand in hand. Looking at some of the maps I find it interesting how higher IQ people end up in the Dakotas and the upper midwest. These seem to attract libertarian types I think is one reason. Wisconsin and Minnesota just have good school systems. I think the cold helps keep out the riff-raff as well.

A county by county map would be even more useful. I've found Sioux Falls to have a more "upscale" feel than Rapid City, and Rapid City is a MUCH warmer climate, for example. I think the cold simply drives certain types of people away. Really low income and homeless types have a harder time when it's -20F all winter long. Same reason these states have some of the lowest crime rates...

Interesting. I'm not surprised to see that the two states I have spent most of my life living in rank #1 and #2 in IQ. I am a bit surprised to see California being so close to the bottom though. Below many of the much maligned southern states even.

Interesting that you chose to compare GA with NH and UT. Why not use the state you live in for comparison? Pretty sure I know why, Texas is has the 6th highest percent of incarcerated while Georgia is 9th. Guess it’s not as effective to slam the South when they’re better by the metric you’re presenting than your state.

BTW, your link is from 2015. Below is from 2017.
