At the risk of hypocrisy, I don't think this is a serious crime, I mean what is the harm to the 14 year old boy getting some sex? Girls are another matter, they need to be protected.
I don't think its necessarily wrong to find someone underage attractive. If you see a cute baby or toddler and you say 'Wow he/she is very cute!' as I'm sure people have done many times in their lives, does that automatically make you a pedophile? Or does that mean you simply find someone cute and/or attractive AND THAT'S IT? Namely just because you find someone cute even if they're underage, if you're not doing anything else like in this story with the teacher and her student, then what exactly is the problem?
And also with regards to your son he may or may not be mature enough to handle sex, but if he's straight you can sure as hell bet that he's curious about sex and most definitely is curious about girls. Maybe females don't understand this much because.........well they're female and they think differently about sex, but as straight males we're usually very interested in girls even at a very young age. Your son may not be ready for sex, but don't be surprised if his browser history isn't very PG someday or even now because he started looking at naked chicks and porn.

Yes, he's curious. He's a teenage boy. That doesn't mean he is emotionally or intellectually ready to handle sex...especially with an adult! And no, females aren't some lily white pure as the driven snow virginal Madonnas so many try to make us out to be. We enjoy sex. We find men attractive. We have hormones and orgasms and fantasies. But that's NO excuse to defend an adult having sex with a child. End.of.story.

They shouldn't hire attractive women as teachers. Men and older women would be a safer bet.
There should also be stricter dress codes for teachers. I think they have been encouraged to be more like friends to the students rather than keeping it professional.

Someone's looks aren't a great barometer of their moral character. I had very good looking teachers who were professionals and are still teaching to this day, doing wonderful things for their students. And I've had unattractive teachers who were notorious pervs.

For a 14 year old girl it is outright rape and a horrible thing.
Seriously, you want this young women's life ruined over this? She can't be a teacher, that much is certain.
They need to develop better screening for young females before they are hired. Problem is, there is not a surplus of college grads applying for teaching positions and it's getting worse all the time.
I think this has been going on forever. I think the districts just quietly allowed the women to resign before this crazy social media world was born.
