Are you kidding? Saudi have long been an incubator for terrorism. They also have all too often been a reluctant ally. Qatar has actually always been a reliable ally.
The correct approach was Tillerson's which was to work back channels to simmer down the tensions. Not publicly picks sides as Kushner did.

Saudi going through major reformation...as far as their religion? No.
They still beat women (legal) and have almost complete separation of the sexes. They still cannot do most anything that you think of being in the modern world. A woman still cannot go ANYWHERE or do anything without a male guardian with her at all times.

I can't help thinking either you do business with the Sauds - or you are not well read. For example, did you read the recent book written by a Saudi Woman about her trying to drive a car? Read it - and then think of Bin Laden and the 9/11 plot and the Madrassas and other efforts (publishing houses, etc.) that the Saudis are financing.
Saudi Arabia is - by commission or omission - not only the largest terrorist farm in the world, but also perhaps the single most Fundamentalist Islam country in the world. Have your views changed on Fundie Islam?
All this stuff going on now is just internal money and power stuff. Sure, every decade or so they loosen things up a tiny bit. But the country is run by decrees of the Fundie religious figures and it is very far out....
For example, the Starbucks there does not currently allow women in. This is because they forgot to build "The Wall" that has to be built in every place that separates men and women. This despite women being in Hijabs (you can't see them anyway).
I'm sure you can find an exception - but that is Saudi Arabia and it has never changed quickly. In fact, the reason they are so strict is to put down ANY critique of the King and the Government so as not to allow protest or free speech to take root.
