The info came to light from an undercover video by Project Veritas. The ALP is self-described as 'democratic socialist'. The contributions from foreign nationals were illegal, but since Australian parties receive tax-funding from gov't, there is that further wrinkle to consider. If this had been funded by US tax dollars, that would have been illegal too, but evidently the FEC does not consider the use of foreign tax money to be of relevance.
