Its a tool, one of many thousands that do the same.
How does a vote to ban assault rifles, and then a quick backtrack, "show" anything other than the Florida Republicans are cowards?

Really...did you know it would pass first?

Predicting any gun control legislation would fail in Florida--is not much of a feat--now, if you could tell us where the next mass shooting will take place..now that would be a trick.

I guess we deserve our "weird state" status considering the Florida Legislature is run by Republicans yet there are more registered Democrats in this state and we elected Obama TWICE!

How does this happen?

Shades of the 2000 "Selection"?

You really think that a two year ban on assault-style weapons would start the 'next revolution?' You overestimate both the impact of such a law..and the power of the relatively small group of right-wing crazies that feel all that concerned.

We have had an assault weapons ban before in this country..we seem to have survived intact.

All this overblown hype and drama serves to do is make ordinary supporters of the 2nd amendment look foolish as they get unfairly lumped in with the nutz.

I support the 2nd--and I think an assault-style weapons ban is unworkable..but if it happened...it would not be the end of our country nor the start of a new civil war.

I think Assault-style weapons should be controlled the same way fully-automatic weapons are..with a more stringent permit process and a nice $500 dollar licensing fee. Grandfather the weapons currently owned..and give every owner a free permit...along with a background check.

It is interesting to note that there have been very few mass shootings with fully automatic weapons--no BAR's, no Thompson's--nobody's mounted a .50cal on their pick-up and drove down the main drag.

Reasonable control is not unconstitutional,, IMO.

Now let the NRA nutz vent their wrath...lol!

Indeed, and more importantly just another means of criticizing the NRA and the Constitution.

Rest assured enough of them were acting like liberals thinking "we must do something" and were making decisions based on emotion rather than logical thought. They quickly realized that an attempt to ban semi-auto rifles like the AR-15 would be unconstitutional, and didn't want a protracted legal battle that they would eventually lose.
Unlike CA, who would take the attitude of lets do it and fight a losing battle to the end, they got hold of their senses.
Why they did this on a weekend in the middle of the night should have told them something to begin with.

What are you talking about. Scott made all sorts of proposals after he convened people from both sides of the political spectrum. Some of them made sense, others were questionable, but he is putting a quarter of a billion into school safety with practical & pragmatic actions.

Funny how liberals, even when they get some things they wouldn't expect from a (R) still are clamoring for getting hard left wingers to replace moderate (R's). Scott has opposed drilling of FL's shores and told Trump in no uncertain terms to keep FL out of his plans in that regard. Yet the libs still immediately attack him for not "going far enough" and want someone hard left..

FL GOP just insured that Sen. Nelson will retain seat. Fl polls show 70% want assault weapons BANNED.

Rick Scott GOP gov is expected to run against Nelson. Race was predicted to be toss-up, but after FL school shooting, it favored Nelson.

No way a GOP wins that Senate seat, even if Scott pretends to favor assault weapons ban.

Well...that's your take. Mine? To even list the NRA in the same breath as the Constitution is a sick joke.

Acting on emotion..after 17 children have been killed..is not a bad thing.

I doubt that the constitutionality of the law even passed their minds--the thought of losing all that NRA money certainly did. Assault-style weapons have been banned before..and they passed the Constitutional test with no problem.

BTW..when did it ever get in your head that only Liberals feel the need to do something? The gist of your comments seem to be that mass shootings are just the cost of doing business..and that your version of the 2nd amendment must be watered with the blood of innocents. It seems too high a price to pay for you to own your penis substitute..without some controls--controls that have been instituted in the past..and have been found to be constitutional.

You and your ilk do not get to define what is, and what is not, Constitutional..that is left to the SCOTUS...and they have clearly ruled that reasonable controls on weapons do not violate the 2nd.

I'm a gun-owning supporter of the 2nd amendment..and nobodies idea of a Liberal..or at least what a liberal is today.
