We all know there are some truth to all jokes and Trump is speaking is mind here. A part of him probably wish he can serve for life so there's no way for us to remove his sorry hiney from office.
Trumps ego would love being president for life and as you said most know he didn't mean this as a joke.
There should and hopefully never be in the U.S a president for life. Might as well go back to having a King and Queen.
Since Trump won the left lost its sense of humor. You are all in some sort of mourning that never seems to end. You take everything Trump says and does very literally.
Who cares if Trump tries his hand at humor. All presidents do and most fail.
I am not a trumpie, Libertarian here but I am not losing sleep over all this like the left is.
Realize that when you all on the left are constantly debating this minutia regarding Trump its hard to take you seriously on things of real importance.

How would they react had Obama said it? First the frothing at the mouth, followed by fox news spending 2 weeks on it, and finally, a congressional investigation costing 47 million so they could keep it in the headlines.
The left does political humor very well and it's actually the right that has difficulty with it. Fox news tried an ill-fated attempt about 10 years ago because of their acknowledgment of the effectiveness of Jon Stewart.
If he did say it not as a joke this must be called out as bad.
People on the right sharply criticized Obama for saying that he wished he could make laws without congress as a boost to dictators around the world. What is the difference between Obama's and Trump's comments?
You can't blast Obama and then accept Trump's comments.

That perception seems to be very prevalent on the left, assuming that any who do not agree with the left must be Trump-loving RWNJs. That assumption was part of what cost the left the election. Keep ignoring the middle majority. We don't like +/- 80% of what the right serves up and +/- 95% of what the left serves up. But until the left brings something to the table even remotely digestible, we'll do our best to stomach what's already here.

No, you just don't like the left, which is obvious from your post, so stop trying to act like you are some kind of a moderate, or someone from the middle ground. You are not.
