Ballenger, a psychiatrist with 40 years of experience, had already analyzed Dylann Roof, the white supremacist who killed nine African Americans in a Charleston church in 2015, and Jared Lee Loughner, who killed six people and wounded Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona in 2011. What he saw in Jesse was a young man who killed not because of bullies or abuse or a fractured mind, but because he wanted to attain the life and status he’d envisioned.
“He was going to be famous, the best shooter ever,” Ballenger testified. “He was going to be worshiped for a long time — worshiped.”
Life and status? Worshiped?
Why do these kids think that's the best way to attain the above??
not really, cruz was also a mental case who made threats and wanted to be a professional school shooter. also note that the person in your link said he wanted to shoot up his old elementary school because it was closer and had no armed security. guess those gun free zones really do work.

Cruz was an orphan. He was a victim of bullying. This kid was the bully.

I agree. Evidently, some people have nothing in life and feel so insignificant that they feel it would somehow be great to be known for something.........anything. Obviously, there is something really missing upstairs, and they suffered some kind of abuse or rejection growing up, but I don't think there is any simple answer.
If you look at the Ted Bundys of the world, what makes a seemingly normal guy actually end up a monster inside ?
Why do these kids think that's the best way to attain the above??
See, this is exactly what I've been saying for many years now, and every time there is yet another mass shooting.
The outer motives may seem very different, white supremacy here, Islamic terrorism there, etc., but the underlying motives are all the same for these mass shooters.
It's a sick need for fame and attention in this media obsessed world of ours where everyone wants to be famous and important. Is it any wonder there was a recent news blurb that the most desired future 'career' among young people was YouTube/social media star?
When these weirdos see how much attention each mass shooting gets, now they want to be that 'important.' They see how the news media discusses the shooting non stop, they see how everyone wants to pontificate about gun control, they see all this attention being focused simply because someone decided to get some guns and shoot up people. And now they want to do the same thing, to achieve that fame and attention they feel they deserve. These narcissists want to up the body count, and do acts so heinous people will discuss it for a long time. They want to be up there with the Choi's and the Cruz's in the pantheon of mass shooters.
This is why the mass shootings won't stop, and they will continue to get worse. It's not about guns, it's all about losers in life who want to reclaim their manhood and get the attention and 'status' they think they deserve from society.
