Wasn't the plan to just stop producing and selling a lot of the ammunition rather than target the guns already out there.

I seem to recall that was Michael Moore's plan.

How many innocent lives have been lost due to the War on Guns making them feel they couldn't keep and bear arms in a situation where they thought they needed to?

Many of them survived such a situation.

But some didn't.

The criminals are surely thankful the law has done so much to disarm their victims.

The 2nd amendment is the criminals' enemy. They must be happy the government has done so much to prevent it from protecting American citizens from them.
