The culture you accept as a child, could set you up for success or failure.
Growing up some cultures will bully those that want to learn and stay in school. Being the nerd will get you in fist fight after fist fight until you finally succumb. A set up for a failed life.
Other cultures find the Nerds funny. As the nerds mature, they become the leaders. Yes, the goofy kids that didn't like to get in trouble or do sketchy things, have a better chance of making it.
There is a culture out there, that if you show the slightest weakness, they will pounce on you.
That culture is growing exponentially.
For example, if you take pride in being a backwards redneck, shun higher education and other forms of advanced learning because you don't want to become one of the "elites," you will find yourself spending your life in a trailer park or similar disadvantaged situations and barely getting by ... but of course you reap what you sow. Then when you blame those supposed "elites" for your ill fortune and vote for Donald Trump, then you will further reap what you sow. Additionally, taking actual pride in your backwardness ("proud deplorable" and the like) of course only compounds the problem because it indicates a complete unwillingness to better one's situation. People like this go around life thinking the world owes them a well-paying job with complete benefits even having only finished high school (and often, barely at that), and thus get bitter at anyone who appears to be doing better (they are branded "elites") when of course, these people who are doing better in life simply have a better understanding of how to do better in life.
So yes, it's all about the culture. The culture of taking pride in one's backwardness is one of the main causes of America's varying problems. It's rather unfortunate those participating in this culture do not realize their misfortunes are their own fault, and not the fault of some "elite."
Inner city black boys doing good in school, get jumped for not being cool and hanging out with the trouble makers.
Pretty soon, they are fighting back and the education is lost.
It's the culture dummy.
a very small percentage of 6% of the population, commit 53% of all murders and 69% of all violent crime.
True but you can't entirely separate culture from heredity and ethnicity. Fundamentally ethnicity creates a culture or is at least a significant factor.

Yes you can.
It is not race... It is the culture. Happens to young smart white boys doing good in inner city schools.
Get out in the small towns where a full graduating class is less than 100 people and everyone knows everyone no matter your skin color and that doesn't happen. It is almost the opposite to see who can be smarter than the other guy.

These are the words of a man who says boys don't learn well from books.
