I agree with you on this. But, in order to do that we need to stop calling each other names and try to find common ground that we can all agree on. That goes for all of us, from the President on down.
For instance, I think that *most* of us would agree that we want to see our great nation be successful. We may disagree on the path to get there, but most of us share that common ground at least.
Yet, the way some here talk, everyone who says anything even slightly negative about the President's approach is anti-American. I mean, that is clearly why multiple other threads were started about Elizabeth Warren this morning -- to get folks riled up about bashing her. Yet, in doing so, neither of those threads mentioned that she also said something positive about the President's tariffs plan.
So, until people stop attacking each other at the slightest disagreement no progress will be made. What makes America great is that we are all free to have our own opinions and ideas and to speak openly about them. That goes for the press too, by the way.
If the President is serious about shaking hands with both sides of the aisle (and developing a more positive relationship with the press), he could set a good example for the country by changing the tone he uses in some of his public communications. Who wants to shake hands with someone who calls you an SOB?
Here on City Data, we could all also do better at spending less time with name-calling and more time actually listening to each other.
Anyhow, just something I've been thinking about for awhile. Hope it makes sense.
Trying to rationalize with talk radio fans is a fruitless exercise. This is team sports, it's not about policy or what's good for the country.

I agree 100% with your post. A large part of the reason I've backed off the politics forum is that I'm tired of the imbecilic name calling. We are supposedly all adults here, but many of the posts could be written by middle schoolers - on both sided of the political divide.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Sunday that she approves of President Trump's move to bring tariffs into the trade conversation.
Why it matters: It's a reminder that Trump is closer to the left wing of the Democratic Party on trade than he is to mainstream Republicans like Paul Ryan.
----
Remember too: The President's tariff plan comes from his adviser Peter Navarro. Navarro is a Democrat who Hilary Clinton supported in his (failed) run for Congress.
It is funny how so many here seem to "hate" all Democrats but don't have a problem with the President who is toeing the line with Democrats on trade.
Wow that’s a new one...try to tie Trump to the alt left Warren!
If impeach and a porn star can’t, Trump disappear then throw in the alt left tie!

Elizabeth Warren. Even a broken watch is right twice a day.
Wow Granny Warren is actually given Trump a thumbs up! What's next Cats and Dogs living together ?
She is so anti Trump that she borders on the crazy scale right next to Maxine Waters...
The bigger question is why do we need to pick sides down the Right or Left of the political aisle.
Obama was clearly a Lefty all the way.
I say we need a President that can walk the aisle of Congress and shake hands with everyone.
There has to be a balance for a better America.
Imagine if the Dems and the Lefty media would stop trashing Trump at every turn how public opinion would turn for the better.
Imagine if Trump really does Make America Great Again and doing so requires a team effort.
I think it is great that Elizabeth Warren is big enough to agree on something that Trump is doing that might actually be a positive for America.
Difficult to call for compromise when your side just spent 8 years calling Obama a muslim, trying to kill healthcare and financial reform, making 'Obama a one term president' the #1 priority instead of governing, shutting down the gov't over the deficit, etc

So she agrees on ONE issue out of a hundred and that makes you think Trump is a dem.
No wonder you guys DON'T control the fed or many states!
"Well, I think it's important to remind everybody that a tariff is simply a tax, and that the people who pay it are American consumers."
yes, you could call it a tax..... a tax to even the playing field........if china is paying its people $40/week, and the average wage in America is $25/hr is that a level playing field??? no, that is why a tariff (paul calls it a tax) is placed on the uneven turf to even things out
I like the idea of tariffs..... and that is one of the things that trump ran on, and one of the things that got him elected

Free trade is actually a libertarian thing, neither liberal or conservative; though conservatives being pro-laissez faire tend to support it as well
