Never claimed otherwise, so why bring it up.

The poster who first talked about apartments did NOT say high rise, so it is safe to assume he was NOT talking about high rise ONLY.

P.S. If you have to keep a window cracked to let the cord in, you CAN stuff a towel in the crack.
No, I do not have a reading comprehension problem, I was simply pointing out that they are not an option for everyone.

It's never safe to assume anything. He said apartment. There are many kinds of apartments. Some are high rises. In the New York area, MANY are high rises. As to why I brought it up, I did so because someone earlier in the thread said anyone with common sense would be prepared, by having a generator.

Also, I know you can stuff a towel in the crack. I did that, and until I moved the generator further from the window, my CO detector was still reading at an unsafe level.

You seem to want to argue for the sake of doing so. Why?

We can't have gasoline-powered generators. Could be an explosive situation in wood-framed townhouses.

I was there in the county. I was witness to the weather forecasts. In the case of both Sandy and the twin winter storms all three major weather forecasting models, i.e. the Euro, the NAM and I forget the third one had the probability of a major, damaging storm at 100%. If there were model variations I can see holding off, maybe. But in this case all the models were calling for the damage. The crews should have been brought in before the storms. In the case of Sandy the crews couldn't make it in because of the lack of gasoline and diesel in the area.

Get a battery-powered generator.
