No president, regardless of party, has been able to do anything about the immigration problem. They always try but always fail. And a wall won't do anything.

The article has good tactical advice but, unfortunately for the Democrats, tacticians aren't the ones driving their agenda. It's all TDS, all the time. And that means a move toward shrill rhetoric and extremism on just about every issue.

IF a wall didn't do anything - then California (which has a wall) would be tearing it down and not trying to fund the repairs on it. Border Walls don't solve all issues and there are many places it won't work at all - BUT it is the answer to certain areas. "The Wall" that Tump now supports is 'virtual' in certain areas - the Rio Grande River is the biggest obstacle to border control - you can't build a wall in a River and I would never support a Wall that fences off the River.

The article is very good - but Leftists will not pay any attention to it. It's spot on - Immigration is a problem because 2 viewpoints refuse to come together to even work on it and the Immigrants are stuck in the middle.

1. Open Borders - abolish ICE - let any refugee from anywhere in the USA and totally support them.

verses

2. Follow the Laws and make new Laws to improve the process. Make it Legal for DACA (which even Obama said must be done by Congress) and VET the refugees.

As Peter Beinart has pointed out in The Atlantic, Democrats have only grown more and more extreme on the issue of immigration—and more shrill. Democrats seem to have imperceptibly, but genuinely, shifted from a policy of “some restriction, some enforcement, some amnesty, some increase” to a much more expansionist policy. While most Democratic politicians still gesture in the direction of some form of enforcement and limit, in practice they seem to find it impossible to find any sort of immigration that they don’t approve of. While politicians follow, as always, the intelligentsia leads. How many progressive intellectuals don’t believe that borders are in some sense immoral? Meanwhile, the self-styled resistance, in response to Trump’s disgraceful treatment of children, is pushing forward with its “abolish ICE” campaign, a slogan so hilariously short-sighted I’m still not 100 percent convinced it’s not the RNC (or perhaps Putin) who coined it.

As Business Insider’s Josh Barro has argued, Americans think immigration is fine, but they also want their immigration system to be controlled by people who believe they have the interests of American citizens at heart when designing and implementing immigration policy—not those of foreign citizens.

As to the polling - the polls are "all over the place" because the polling questions are "all over the place" ...... and designed to produce particular results. Most people have no idea what the Laws are and the Media is certainly not explaining it.

Polling is consistent on several questions -
1. Allow DACA kids to have a legal way to stay in the USA
2. Control the borders and numbers of immigrants who enter
3. Vet the refugees and make sure they are not dangerous

Somebody should do a poll that asks simple questions like ....
1. Do you support the movement to abolish ICE?
2. Do you support Immigration Laws
3. Do you support Open borders and allow anyone to enter?

The real questions is: are Democrats willing to learn? I think not, at least in this case. They have figured out a contorted way of convincing people that a crying child of an illegal alien is somehow more worthy than a crying child of an American killed by an illegal alien.

We are not going to tell the GOP to stop trying to get your paws SS and Medicare because people care more about that than immigrants.

Democrats favor severe fines for businesses that knowlingly hire illegals. If you want to stop illegal immigration make it unprofitable to hire illegals. That means poultry farmers, factories, contractors, farmers, ranchers, construction and small businesses.
