The national debt is skyrocketing and biggest part of the budget (54%) is military spending and now Trump want to add an entirely new branch of the military, increasing military spending even more. The more sophisticated the "toys", the higher the budget. Right now the Navy and Air Force have annual budgets of over 160 Billion each. A space force could easily add another 200 Billion. More 'toys', more uniforms, more generals, more bases …. more, more, more.
Didn't the military just go through a streamlining process where many bases were closed and consolidated in order to be more efficient and to save money?

This is very strange timing. the NY Times article back in Dec 2017 talked about the 490 page Pentagon briefing 'The Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program' which went into detail about the unknown metals and materials recovered from past UAPs, this report concluded the United States would be unable to defend against some of these technologies. This report was in 2009 though, so maybe advancements have been made since then.
So its interesting Trump is talking about a 'space force' right now.
