Trump didn't PROMISE anything. More gun control laws aren't up to him, they are up to CONGRESS.
Lots of things that Trump promises are actually up to Congress. Trump's not a unique president in that regard.
But this is just another in the long line of incidents that demonstrate that
a) Trump crumples like really flimsy tissue paper
b) he is under the thumb of lobbyists and is not, in fact, draining the swamp
c) he actually doesn't have an intellectual or political core
d) he actually doesn't have a strategic bone in his body
Note to the clueless - DiFi wasn't laughing with glee at that press conference. She was laughing at Trump volunteering to be ridiculous in public.
On live TV, he berated legislators for being intimidated by the NRA. Then he met with the NRA in private and the walk back began.
He encouraged the Senate to pack a bill with everything, including the kitchen sink, and in doing so ensured no action would be taken.
And what about the EO banning bump stocks he said he was going to do? Likely his AG told him that it would require an Act of Congress. Crickets from the WH.
What was the purpose of the Trump/Senate Listening Session beyond another attempt to dominate the news cycle?
But it is good that the nation got a chance to see what a dishonest liar and fraud this guy is. He will tell people anything they want to hear, but he rarely means it, and he is in no way shape or form trustworthy. His word is not his bond.

On 2/28, Trump said he was going to do an EO and ban bump stocks.
In the meantime, Trump made time to :
Hit the links at Mar-a-Lago, and
Champion himself in Pennsylvania under the guise of stumping for a Republican Rep, and
Attend a round table at a private residence in Beverly Hills whereby people paid $35,000-$250,000 for a seat at the table.
Does not matter how you, I or the NRA feels about bump stocks. Trump said he was going to do it and thus far has not.
