Johnny Carson - class, very little political partisanship - he was in his prime during the JFK assassination, Viet Nam, Watergate, Iran hostages...etc.
David Letterman - Lowered the bar on class, made the show more partisan, more political, but rarely crossed the line.
Jimmy Kimmel - Partisan baffoon, has made the tonight show unwatchable, a Hollywood partisan hack!
Here in CA people are absurdly ignorant of how they're being played. Actually, 40% of Americans are in that camp.
Johnny Carson made a gag telephone call to the Kremlin, and made some joking insults including the fact that Russian women had never seen a Lady Bic razor.
I also remember Jay Leno showing some hilarious skits right after 9-11...one of them was a Muslim terrorist in Gitmo being handed a bar of soap. He looked quizzically at it, then ate it.
And he sure got in the un-PC one-liners. One was about a Muslim terrorist having a "bounty on his head"..."A bounty on the head of someone who wears Bounty on his head."
Johnny Carson was a mean-spirited, misogynist, unfaithful, drunk whose own children hated him for being such a crappy father and didn't have a friend in the world. But what's even worse was that he was simply not funny.

Carson, Leno and now Fallon......
Fallon's writers are a disgrace to Carson & Leno, light side of politics.
I no longer watch and I had not missed a viewing besides reruns of the Tonight Show since the 1970's.

You have two incorrect hosts here. David Letterman hosted Late Night with David Letterman on NBC and then The Late Show on CBS; while Jimmy Kimmel hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.

The question is would you still feel the same if Kimmel were promoting a right wing agenda? People have the right to express their views, even ones you do not agree with. Alex Jones and Breitbart promote the extreme in right wing ideology. So much so that one of them has crossed the line into straight up paranoia. I've never seen you complain about them.
The sooner right wingers learn that it's not just their world the sooner we can put this whole ugly partisan business behind us.
