“It’s a violation of CPS policy, of state law, and of the First Amendment for a government-run school to organize a political demonstration and pressure students to participate in it,” he added.
I kind of predicted this, and expect that there will be many more lawsuits to follow. In a just-adjudicated lawsuit, Janus v AFSCME, a government worker sued over being forced to subsidize political speech. That is exactly what happened with the protests/walkouts of March 14.
If time limits allow, some people may wait until the results of Janus v AFSCME are announced (late May/early June). If Janus wins, as expected, lawsuits against school districts for violating the First Amendment should be a slam dunk.
Our society (as exemplified by this school district story) is moving dangerously to the very far Left. Thank god for the GOP for keeping things in check, even somewhat, and prevent our society from going completely off the deep (Left) end.
But we are moving in the right direction. The future is looking brighter.
Well when we have children walking out of school for an (ill-defined) liberal cause, and teachers cheering them on, we're far gone. Forty year-old men in women's school locker rooms, w/ 'junk' hanging out, claiming to be female...far gone. Tens of thousands up and down the west coast living in tents, under bridges, and in dilapidated RV's, including many children...far gone.
I do agree that we are moving in the right direction w/ the GOP dominating the past few election cycles. I wish we would move a little faster. But I always argue to libertarian friends that the GOP will never be the party of limited gov't nirvana. The best we can expect is that they dial back excesses of liberalism, and perhaps that is enough.
