What an idiot. He sold the country out for 5 billion.

Instead of voting on bills they should have an "auction" and invite the lobbyist to bid.
And that's pretty much how it works in a nutshell...

Not sure why you're getting your email, but we should all know the representatives who vote on these bills are sending their little emails to voters while taking phone calls from those who really matter to them, the special interests who they answer to more directly. Those who lobbied for that $5 billion and continue to keep those representatives in office with their special interest money that is the life-blood of our political system.

A closer look at that political system, regardless which direction you lean, and it becomes clear we are not really even electing these people. Those special interests with all that special interest money are deciding who is in office and who votes for what.

And then we wonder and complain about the results...?

But he said he was going to veto the bill before he signed it!

Let's not forget how important and brilliant Trump is when it comes to these tweets and comments that keep his base believing in him! Everyone else the "enemy of the people."

Why bother considering the actual results when actions don't really matter more than words...

Anyone can always argue it "would have been a LOT WORSE."

Another one of those arguments for those who were going on about all that "winning," easy to turn to as they begin to realize what they "won," and no matter how bad it gets, it could have always been worse. Love it!

And "compromise?" Is that what you call this?

More like fear of not passing something no matter how crappy the legislation coming out of Congress tends to be these days. Trump and congress fear shutdowns and public frustration over getting nothing done more than they fear passing legislation that allows the spending to continue, for just about everyone, regardless the long-term results. Our children aren't voting after all...

That's not compromise! That's poor governance, and the majority in office must bear the responsibility as always, certainly no less than the minority. With the White House too? Screams of kidding yourself if you ask me!

National defense is the most legitimate of spending items.

No one likes war, but we live in a world where evil exists all around us, and they are eager to do us harm. Consider N. Korea and Iran. Both threatening to kill us.

Peace through strength.
How many times have I heard this argument, going back well before Obama?

Always seems the same just like how every POTUS lets the American people we have the most advanced powerful military complex in the world, and so our numbers seem to suggest compared to the military budgets of even our most powerful allies...

In any case, you might make a better case with more than just say so and maybe some consideration for all the factors that determine when to spend more or less, like when we decide to invade Iraq vs pull out, for starters.

"The world is a dangerous place," no doubt. Forever arguing for more military spending regardless the factors that determine the need for that spending can be dangerous too. Listen to Trump, anyway, and he sure doesn't seem to think we are ill prepared to deal with any threat from "Rocket Man" in any case. Apparently we're good and ready to bring "fire and fury like the world has never seen." Seems Obama didn't "gut" our capability as much as you seem to believe. Not according to Trump anyway...

Because the house couldn't pass the bill without democratic support even though they have a 45 vote majority. That makes them look more than foolish, it makes them look downright stupid

I'm going with the first and the last answer.
Good thing we're not being graded for correct answers!

Can't blame you though, given these multiple choice options. Where is the "none of the above" option?

Pretty much. If it was an R-only bill, it would look one hell of a lot different.

The question becomes - WHY, exactly, couldn't the Rs produce a bill for an R president to sign? WHY did they NEED those D votes to prevent the government from shutting down?

It isn't the Ds fault that the Rs couldn't get it together.

There is absolutely no reason for the republican party to exist at this point if this is what they are going to accomplish with the most power they have had in 100 years .The Republican leadership is so weak. At this point who cares who wins the midterms, the Democrats are going to get what they want anyway
So, a new tunnel between NY and NJ for trains is ridiculous, when the existing tunnel is overloaded and 100 years old?

Can't complain about not reading a 2,300 pg bill when they wrote it. Congress folks and their staff are paid to read it.

There is talk of a line-item veto, so stay tuned for more on that. The only reason President Trump signed the bill was to assist the military. Other than that, we didn't need to spend. What this really is is the Senate just giving up on us entirely. I agree that the bill is too long and very outrageous, and I share your pain.

Don't give up. I'm going to continue to vote Republican no matter what the Senate or the House decide to do. I thought the Senate had turned the positive corner when the tax cuts bill got passed. I guess we were wrong. And what's the alternative, anyway? Voting Democrat means losing this country and selling it off to other nations who salivate at the opportunity to run us, and eventually, destroy us. That's what would happen. Yes, Trump should have vetoed the bill in an effort to get Congress back to work on a better bill, but hopefully, there's still a slim chance to regroup. It all lies in the hands of American voters when it comes to these stupid Senators who don't want to cooperate and make things work, and draining the swamp is not going to be an overnight thing. And Trump or no Trump, conservatives must hang on.
