Good for her, I never did trust doing transactions like these face to face, and always bought/sold things online (ebay).

One man approached her vehicle to show her the phone, Bruce said. A second man then approached her vehicle from the passenger side, opened the door and attempted to rob her at gunpoint.

The victim then pulled her own gun and reportedly shot the suspect in the leg.

Meeting in person is safe if done correctly though. Some cities set up spots for people to do business that are well-lit and have security cameras. If that isn't enough (I don't think it is but it's better than a dark alley) meet inside at the local police station and tell the attending officer what you're doing. I did that many years ago when I was selling my sister's car for her.
