There is NO such place as Utopia!
so we have to take away your freedom so you can have freedom? So much for bumper sticker philosophy.
Im not selfish, I just dont want to be forced into servitude to go kill, destroy the property of, or tresspass against, a people who have done nothing to me.
First off no one in the military is serving me, they are serving themselves by doing the fed govs bidding in exchange for money, healthcare, schooling and host of other service affiliated entitlements of which I am forced to fund. This is not to be confused with "serving your country" and If that isnt selfish, I dont know what is.
Secondly, if they were truly defending freedoms, they'd be marching on congress and washington DC as there lies the only threat to my freedoms in my lifetime.

This entitlement scheme has kept this country from speaking German and Russian.

Anyone can have an opinion about the military, just don't forget those men and women who volunteered to serve so you have the freedom to not serve. Freedom isn't free.

Make no mistake, Uncle Sam would start conscription tomorrow if he couldn't get folks to serve. And just like Vietnam, only the rich and powerful would be able to get out of it.

We have never been in danger of being speaking either.
And most volunteered to serve because they had nothing else going on, so free food, lodging, healthcare, easy access to drugs and liquor along with preferential treatment by the duped masses sounded pretty good at the time.
But you're right freedom (well the perception of it anyway) isn't free, and we should be reminded of that every April 15th when fat fingered Uncle Scam extracts his pound of flesh from everyone.

Mothers dont let your daughters grow up to be soldiers:

A new report from the Pentagon has revealed that there were around 14,900 sexual assaults in the US military last year, ranging from groping to rape. The majority of those who reported such incidents faced retaliation.
Although a total of 6,172 sexual assault reports were filed in fiscal 2016, that figure represents only a fraction of the actual number of incidents that took place, as many victims do not officially report the crimes.

Now that the site is working again, here's the link describing how student deferments would work now.

I think mandatory service (military/civil/volunteering/peace core/US Public Heath Service Commissioned Core) for all US Citizens starting at age 18 should be mandatory.

No doubt it would create some problems but I think it would solve far more.
