What would happen if Democrats did abolish the Second Amendment if they were in power for the first time since 2009-2011?

i think it is extremely unlikely that they would attempt to amend the constitution, but just for the sake of humoring you --

i would anticipate lots of bravado and chest-thumping from republicans and the phrases "cold dead hands" and "tyranny" repeated a lot.

why what would you expect?

What would happen? The exact same thing that would happen if the Republicans abolished the second amendment.

In case you wanted to know how it would happen (which illustrates how unlikely that it would happen), here's Art. V of the Constitution:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

But if you want to play in fantasyland, knock yourself out.

Hardly enough support to do that... not even close.

And

Democrats hardly want to abolish the 2nd amendment... that's a flat out lie.

Democratic Party on Gun Control

"We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. "

And what if unicorns were flying all around us and

what if -- there was really a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

If legal gun ownership was banned in the United States, you would have massive non-compliance. If the government went to gun ranges, homes, hunting cabins, etc., and confronted citizens by attempting to take their guns you would have widespread bloodshed. I am NOT advocating for that, but it is what would happen.
