So, taken in context, the article is not about defunding Meals on Wheels, because MOW is not a federally funded program. The article is about not using taxpayer money to fund federal programs that have not proven to get results.
You do know that most people pay for meals on wheels.
I suggest all those who are so interested in the program donate their time and gas money instead of expecting someone else to do it.
I agree. Let's abolish all income, property and estate taxes.
You've said in previous posts that you are an immigrant- if you don't like our taxes and the idea of any of your income contributing to our society feel free to move to a country with less taxation, like the UAE or Bermuda.
The U.S is not abolishing funding for social welfare programs entirely any time soon, nor is it abolishing taxes. From your previous posts, you're clearly unhappy here, and with the way things are done, so why not find somewhere that is better suited to you?
The county Meals on Wheels program where I volunteered was run by Church Women United. They got no federal money. It was mostly all volunteer. The recipients who could afford it paid the full cost of their meal. Others paid a small fee. Donations picked up the rest.
The area AL facilities prepared the food as they prepared lunch for their residents. Each facility prepared about 100 meals per day extra for Meals on Wheels. They liked it because it got the recipients used to their cooking. When the time came, many went into the facility they were familiar with. CWU paid for the food and packing material. The meal was large enough to also provide a small evening supplement.
The drivers also spent a little time with each person while they took the meal to the kitchen, open containers, etc. It was enough for the driver to assess how the recipient was doing. Each driver saw their person at least one day a week. Five pairs of eyes on an elderly person was very helpful all around.
I'm not going to deny that the Federal government contribution to Meals on Wheels is only a small percentage. However, I do believe that the government suggesting that they eliminate their support of the program is a negative based on principle.

Or compassion, I'm not sure what principle you speak of. Do you really think the federal government (MOW is not a federal program) should base spending on emotions instead of economic logic, need and constitutional responsibilities.
Military is federal, how do you propose you handle the sales tax levied by states to pay for a federal department. Your idea then is to raise state sales tax? To what %.
