I'm curious in the debate of this thread, are blacks the only minority then? Or are (east)asians and Amerindians minorities as well? Maybe OP can answer that for me....
They look brown to me I wish I had such beautiful skin...
Thinking about it, maybe it would be enough to simply distinguish between people of European ancestry and the rest as in a country dominated by people of European ancestry, everyone else is in danger of discrimination.
Basically what the Canadians call Visual Minorities. Because HR does not get a DNA analysis, they might not hire someone simply because of what they see.
Very few people are as white as milk. I was referring to "white" as race. In Europe there are Nordic white, and Spanish/Italian white, which is a darker white, or as some people say "olive" tone.
Yeah, that's right. Pushing for the creation of new categories in order to gain special treatment and resources for yourself and your identity group - that's racist. Arguing against that is not.

I'm pretty sure those people were Mestizo, or a mix of White and Amerindian

It is not that simple. Here in Portugal for instance there are natives that are as white as Scandinavians tend to be. Others are very dark. Same thing in Spain and Italy. A former Italian neighbor of mine was whiter than I am. My German mother on the other hand looks what we often assume is typical southern.

All of the above are "white" as the term is used in America, regardless of their actual skin tone.

Sure. Also in US, the range is 'white' is very broad.

Which is why the white label should also include people from the SW Asia, North Africa etc. as they show the same spectrum of skin color, and they are neither black nor East Asian.
Whites are in the census; whites are not a "protected class."
White is a protected class in the USA
Protected class simply means that people cannot be treated different from others due to race or color or religion and several other things including national origin.
For example, one cannot be denied employment because of their race, color or religion or denied housing because of their race, color or religion. This applies to any race, color or religion, whether majority or minority. Ditto for other protected classes.
