Depends on the round. If it's simple FMJ - yes. If it's HP - less.
Cops carry JHP, (jacketed hollow points), and yet perps are often still a threat after several rounds. But, you are correct, they are better man stoppers than FMJ.
Yes, this is part of the story that many overlook. If the invaders didn't flee and instead fought back, she and her husband would have likely been killed. In that instance, an AR-15 would have been very useful.
Why do you keep harping on this "need" argument? Yes, she did. It provides better accuracy, and can hold more cartridges typically depending on magazine used. What if she misses? Isn't I better to have a few extra rounds in case of misses, AND multiple attackers? Also criminals, often hopped up on drugs can take multiple pistol rounds, and still kill you. They've even taken multiple rifle rounds and can still kill you. I am not talking two, or three. I am talking ten our more.
A retired cop that I know, said they hit a guy 19 times and finally tackled him. He was high on PCP. He lived. That is when they changed from 9mm to .40.
That's because you're only counting defensive gun uses where the criminal died. According to the CDC, there are at least 500 million cases every year of people defending themselves with firearms.
Horse pucky! Were that the case you'd be a country where every citizen defended himself at least once a year 1 and 1/2 times.
Who would live in such a place?????? Sensible people would move out and leave it to the anarchy already arrived at.
I could see your mistake were you to merely misplace a decimal point or a comma but you actually specified "million" in it's written word form.
This is the actual quote from the study: “Defensive uses of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence, although the exact number remains disputed. Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.”
One half of one million to a max of 3 million ........a far cry from "500 million", eh?

Clearly you guys think these “Well, let’s ban such and such” statements are witty. Allow me to be the one to tell you...
They are not witty. In fact, those statements give the illusion of a person with simple-minded thinking—sometimes erroneously. Sometimes not.
Admittedly, I will never understand why you guys think that is some display of brilliance.
Well we know why you don't want brooms banned. How would you fly?
