Pure deflection ... "look at that shiny object over there!"

Every issue is important, this is not a zero-sum game.

Not really, they were designed as a communication tool, BUT some are abusing that and its leading to accidents and death. Normally they target access to products like this when they start becoming a problem, even if the majority use them as they should.

Opioid prescription drugs are a great example of this, a very small percentage of users started abusing them, the response was to target access to these drugs, even effecting the people that never abused them and took them as they were instructed.

Automatic weapons are for the military and are not available to the ordinary citizen, so your point falls sadly flat.

Automatic weapons have long been highly regulated.

The founders intended for the people to be able to protect themselves from the government.

The AR15 and similar were a takeoff on a weapon designed for killing people primarily. They certainly have other uses but that does not change the design intent.

NVplumber pointed out on another thread that the original pitch as an assault weapon was in fact made by the gun industry and among gun enthusiasts.

So yest the primary design intent was a people killer. The weapons usefulness for that purpose was demonstrated on Oct 1.

True but clearly overridden by the grand conspiracy. At the time of the founders it may actually have been a rational approach. However it is not rational in the present context.

But its interpretation has...that is the grand conspiracy... Virtually no one on the thinking gun side is willing to support the original intent. But they also recognize it is pretty close to an immutable amendment. So they have reinterpreted it to change the obvious intent.
