Surely, not the goofball who said Trump was in the best shape of any president ever.
Yes, the very same. The thought comes to mind, that this plum of an appointment, is in return for that bogus bill of health. This doesn't speak very highly for his integrity, despite his long list of accomplishments in the military.
But he's an admiral in the Navy. Wouldn't it be nice to have the V. A. run by a qualified person, who had been in an enlisted grade? I'd take the judgement of a master chief petty officer any day, over that of a commissioned officer.
All in all, Jackson is as well-qualified for this job as most of Trump's other cabinet members. Which is to say, not at all.
Interesting article from Stars and Stripes (publication for military members) on the reaction of veteran groups to Shulkin's firing and Jackson's nomination:
Another one bites the dust. Trump hires only the best. Don’t you forget it!!!!!!!!
Trump also fires people not delivering. that is his best attribute. He doesn't wait 6 years like Obama did with Shinseki.
I'm sure insiders told Trump that Schulkin, a man from within, would be perfect for the job. Just as was the case during Obama's tenure.
Obama used his lazer focus to finally fix the VA in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015.
GWB warned Obama in 2008 of the VA problems.
"According to a 2008 memo obtained by CBS News, VA officials briefed the Obama-Biden transition team that its facilities might be concealing the true amount of time veterans had to wait for care." Obama feigned he knew nothing about the problems at the VA
Dec - 2008 - Retired Army Gen. Eric K. Shinseki will be introduced tomorrow as President-elect Barack Obama's nominee to head the Department of Veterans Affairs.
2014 - Shinseki resigns after charges that "veterans are needlessly dying on his watch as the head of the largest civilian agency in the federal government."
2014 - "President Barack Obama is dispatching one of his closest White House advisers to oversee a review of the beleaguered Veterans Affairs Department as the agency grapples with allegations of treatment delays and preventable deaths at a Phoenix veterans hospital."
the VA budget grew by 20 billion dollars during Obama's first two years in office. Proving that money is not the answer
2014 Obama claims he heard of VA problems from news reports
2015 - Obama pick of Mcdonald to head the VA was a disaster as well. "The rookie VA Secretary didn’t just embellish his service, he fabricated it by fraudulently proclaiming to have served in the Special Forces, which is a very select, elite and highly respected corps of our U.S. Military."
In 2016 Hillary told us the problems at the VA were cherry picked by republicans and the VA was running just fine. after all, Obama fixed the VA's problems!
I don't think he's qualified, but I have less of an issue with him than with any of trump's other picks. His appearance at the presser where he rhapsodized about trump's great health was bizarre. But from all accounts he's a nice man.
Good point. Probably should be grateful it isn't Kushner.
