Yes--this is a country we can really get behind and support

Maybe this is what Trump wished he could have done to Stormy Daniels or Karen MacDougal

And how is our State Dept going to deal with SA's beheading a woman for seeking equal rights?
Isn't it time to call an irrational religious state exactly that???

Radical Islam like radical "isms" of Protestant or Catholic or other religions can be dangerous
But not all religions are dangerous and not all forms of Islam are dangerous...
But the Saudi Arabian monarchy is in political debt to to the radical Wahabi strain of Islam from what I understand and even though the younger leadership seems to want to move to more liberal (to them) form of lifestyle it ain't easy...
And it is not happening very quickly because doing so could cause fissures to threaten the stability of the ruling house of Saud...

We’re cool with the Saudis because they spend a lot of cash at Trump properties.

So what was Obama's, Clinton's, Bush's, Reagan's and Carter's excuse?
The Dems were cool with the Shah of Iran. They were cool with Saudi and made excuses for Obama bowing to the Saudi king.
You lose all credibility when you refuse to hold your own to an equal standard.

Weren't some people here not long ago crowing about how Saudi Arabia is finally progressing, with things like letting women drive?

Yea, something like that.

Excellent breakdown of what the problem is. We definitely do not want the current Saudi ruling family to be deposed, because that would be a disaster for everyone. We have to support them. And yes, change takes a while, especially in a country that starts from the very bottom rung. I’ve always thought we should have started when we started drilling for oil. We could have said we will help you if you start educating girls. Even better if they were educated in the same schools as boys. Imagine if they started that 70 years ago, where would they be today.

Think of how successful integration of schools in the American south has been for race relations. It’s not perfect, but it’s a thousand times better than it was in the 1950s.

The Internet is going to drag them into the 21st century eventually, but it’s going to be hell for women for a while.

The story is making it a gender issue when it isn't.

"We've really seen a change, a real attitude change, by the authorities in the way that they're treating women's rights activists and women activists in general,"

She was arrested in a 2015 night raid along with her husband. (A man but no sympathy for him.)
Al-Ghomgham and four of the others charged are facing execution.

They want more equal treatment until they get it and this is a good example of that.
