EPA poised to scrap fuel economy targets that are key to curbing global warming

Pruitt is looking at relaxing the California inspired mpg mandates for auto manufacturers. This is driving up the cost of vehicles at an enormous rate, and following California’s lead on anything for the rest of the country doesn’t seem very smart.

I wish he would do something about the ethanol mandate. Horrible for the environment.

Hurray for us! More poison in the water and air. Who would have thought people would cheer policies increasing their risk, and their families' risk, of getting cancer. Welcome to Trump's America!

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind saving money on gas. Plus, you know, it be nice if my children can have a livable future on this planet.

The OP put the word, "insanity" in the title. That would have been very appropriate, if it had described the effect this roll-back of regulations would cause. But these perpetrators won't be in a position to do much follow-through, in their efforts to trash the environment. We can all, of every political and social faction, look forward to this sort of nonsense being cancelled, after the newly-elected congress takes its seats, next January.

But I do agree about ending the ethanol mandate. It's just a huge racket by the corn producers and the politicians that take payoffs from their lobbyists. Using so much of the growing capacity of the nation, for a non-food crop, has badly affected the worldwide supply of grains for human consumption.

The ethanol additive to gasoline, has also reduced fuel-efficiency and more has to be used for the mileage traveled, increasing air pollution overall, not reducing it. And the damage it has done to many engines, is huge. People have to travel out to the few gas stations that are allowed to sell ethanol-free gas, for boat motors, that is also needed for good performance with lawn-mowers and many small, powered tools. The Mafia couldn't have designed a better scam.

There is a point where things are good enough. Now, in some areas the exhaust coming out the tailpipe is almost cleaner than the air going in.

But still we hear it from The Left. Dirty water, dirty air, cancer rates going up, birth defects, yada-yada-yada.
Clearly Obama was playing to the uninformed masses with his ever higher and higher gas mileage targets. Meanwhile China has days when people cannot drive because of the poor air quality.

Obama gave a mandate to his EPA that vehicles in 2025 should have and average of 54 MPG.
A Smart car and a Fiat 500 can't get anywhere near that. So what will the 2025 look like, weigh and what size engine? No matter how many gimmicks are placed on a fuel injected engine, they can't do anything about the 14.7/1 air/fuel ratio that must be maintained for proper combustion. And what happens to the beloved SUV?

China does the right thing as the USA goes full throttle arse backwards because a jerkwad in The White House is on the take and he was jealous of a black POTUS.

China’s War on Pollution Will Change the World

China is cracking down on pollution like never before, with new green policies so hard-hitting and extensive they can be felt across the world, transforming everything from electric vehicle demand to commodities markets.

Four decades of breakneck economic growth turned China into the world’s biggest carbon emitter. But now the government is trying to change that without damaging the economy—and perhaps even use its green policies to become a leader in technological innovation. So, as lawmakers attend the annual National People’s Congress, here’s a look at the impact of the environmental focus, at home and abroad.
