When have you hear anyone call up a minor's parents to get permission to have sex with him/her?

Sure is a mood killer... but if you think parental permission makes it legal...

I didn’t get that from either article you posted. In fact the article called the one woman a monster on multiple occasions.

I take a centered view on the subject - being I was having and enjoying this stuff at 15.....and definitely a lot at 16. So were most others I know.

I think the DIFFERENCE in age is important. A 19 year old female and 17 year old male - or the opposite, might be OK and within moral bounds (even if against the law of the particular state), but not a 25 year old and a 15 year old.

Also, the situation and the individuals involved are key. This is why humans (and judges, etc.) are supposed to rely on reason. A 26 year old teacher and a 15 or 16 year old student...sounds wrong to me at first blush. I don't question whether they are "in love" or "in lust", it's more a societal matter. If one does it...well, then a million can do it. Next thing you know, the best sex = the best grades in school, etc. etc.

However, if I were 19 and in love with a 17 year old and the state didn't approve of the relationship....I would feel as if they were wrong.

Maybe it's one of those "can't win" situations. Or, maybe France was right - lower the age of consent to 16 but also state that both consenting parties must be of sound mind (to avoid having disabled or lower intelligence people taken advantage of).

You don't think 16 year-old guys do the same thing? And do you think if she waited two more years and then met the guy she would have suddenly gained the insight that the guy was a sh**head?

If we're going to ban sex with 16-17 year-olds because they're too naive, why are they even allowed to have sex with anyone?

I have no idea how those questions might be answered.
So if all the answers are yes, they should be 16 or older.

Ephebophiles should be treated way differently than pedophiles.

My grandmother was 16 when she married my 18 year old grandfather. Their marriage lasted until her death 67 years later.

I don’t care if it’s a guy or a girl, it’s wrong. Someone a lot older and more mature than a 16 year old is likely going after them because, for the most part, they don’t have the maturity to handle the situation and is easy to manipulate.

The laws aren’t perfect but they exist for a reason. If anyone thinks it’s a good idea to have sex with a child, they can always ask their state representative to try to lower the age of consent. Even then, it’s wrong.

Some countries have a very young age of consent. That doesn’t make it right. When I was in the military, I saw retirees in their 50’s to 60’s walking around with their pregnant wives who were usually from the Philippines and in their late teens to early 20’s. Illegal? No. Creepy? Definitely. Something is wrong with a man or woman who has to go after someone significantly younger than they are.

I'd say there is something wrong with a person who looks disparagingly at strangers he sees on the street just because they are a family and one partner is a lot older than the other. This is plain bigotry.
