We slapped 25% tariffs on 1 billion in steel trade from China, and 10% on a bit less with aluminum. The stock market dropped when they replied with tariffs on 3 billion in trade from us to them, and lots of people started complaining.
Buckle up.
Trump just announced 25% tariffs on 1,300 products. Over 50 billion of the trade from China will now be hit by this.
Expect China to respond.
If you thought the market freaked out earlier, and that lots of people were upset? It just got turned to 11.
Good. China needs US markets more than we need their rubber dog crap. China has been allowed to continue for decades with unfair trade practices. Hopefully THIS will bring them to the bargaining table and we can work out some balanced trade deals. I have to say, I think China played directly into Trump's hand when they put tariffs on our exports.
So what kind of research on the impact of tariffs have you done?
I'm thinking not much.
He's not totally wrong. China has played fast and loose, and not engaged in fair trading with us.
But this is like.....your friend steals $50 from you. In response you and him take turns slapping each other.
No one wins...but your friend might think twice about that $50 he stole.
A trade war WILL hurt us both. But being friends with them on trade hasn't been done on a equitable basis. I dont know if this is a good solution, I feel like we could have found a better way.
Good. China needs US markets more than we need their rubber dog crap.
While I agree with much of what you say, this part...not so much. Its not "rubber crap", its things like medicines, insulin, machinery, etc etc. Things we DO need.
God forbid the US starts looking out for its best interests...
Tell us whose best interests are being looked after by making products arbitrarily more expensive through taxation, giving consumers fewer choices and a loss of jobs?
