When it started and when it ends makes no difference. It is what evidence is uncovered that will tell the tale.
People who refuse to accept the fact that the investigation began in July 2016 apparently don't agree with you that when it started doesn't matter. If when it ends doesn't matter, why not have a Permanent Special Counsel to investigate forever.
Besides, politically the objective was to get rid of Trump. The longer it takes, hope he'll be removed remains, but the joy and celebration isn't fulfilled. Nor can the remove Pence campaign begin.
At some point, the likelihood of getting Trump on conspiracy charges becomes lower. 2 years, 3, 5 ? Mueller might eventually get him for something --- illegal business transactions, ties to the mob, a Linda Tripp, Lewinsky, Jones fiasco.

I have some problem with this seeing that Mueller, Rosenstein, and Trump are all republicans. If the FBI inquiry had had no merit according to DOJ, Mueller would never have been appointed. He was appointed because of Trump's firing of Comey, the FBI investigation that Trump was trying to stop, and Trump's public remarks to visiting Russians about Comey's firing. In other words, Trump brought this investigation on himself.
As to how long - Special Prosecutors do not operate on a schedule. What they do is not production work. The average investigation runs 904 days, and some have gone on six or seven years. This one is particularly complex. The results we have seen this early are stunning - 22 indicted, five charged, three cooperating with the probe, one sentenced, one due to be tried in two different courts in July and October, and at least three dozen more sealed indictments filed in D.C. District court waiting until the time is right to unseal them. We also still don't know anything about what was found when the FBI raided the GOP fund raising outfit in Maryland last May, looking for evidence of money laundering.
I'd say we have a while to go, yet. Have patience.
Key prominent Republicans (the last few grownups) support Mueller. I mean they and Mueller are all Republicans for crying out loud. This investigation is looking into how and why Russia interfered in a federal election...this is something we as a country need to know. If the Trump team finds itself smack in the middle of the Russians during the course of the investigation that's not really Mueller's fault. The talking points on the right are beyond absurd to the point I no longer really feel the need to respond. If this was really an actual "witch hunt" those same prominent Republicans would be crying bloody murder and they aren't.
“Emails seen by the Guardian show a regular pattern of interaction between Manafort, Friedman, Gates, Kilimnik and Ukrainian officials. Gates, who went on to work with Manafort on the 2016 Trump campaign, wrote several messages. In February Gates admitted conspiracy and lying to the FBI, and agreed to cooperate with Mueller.
At the time Kilimnik was the Russian manager of Manafort’s Kiev office. Kilminik is understood to be “Person A” in Mueller’s latest indictment, filed last week. It says the FBI believes Kilimnik has ties to Moscow’s GRU spy agency, and adds that Gates was aware of this.”

Kilimnik worked with Yanukovych, who stole $32 Billion when he left the Ukraine for Russia. He was also the go-between for Manafort and Deripaska. Manafort ran Yanukovych's campaign, came back to the states in October of 2015, and went to work for the Trump campaign four months later.
