I think the US should model our immigration policies on Canada and Mexico. Then they can't claim we are racist and unfair. In case you didn't know, their laws are much tougher than ours.

I shared that data going back to Jimmy Carter's administration in post #86.

The data indicates that the number of illegals sneaking across the southern border last year was the lowest it's been since 1971.

The President should be trumpeting that fact! It shows that his attempts to discourage illegals from crossing the border are working great.

Instead, despite the Federal data, he is trying to convince us that there is a national emergency at the border the likes of which has never been seen before.

Again, to be clear: I am not saying that illegals aren't arriving in other ways; I have no doubt that they are. Nor am I saying that there are not millions already here. Or that they don't cost taxpayers money.

Why does it need to be a national emergency? Illegal aliens are still getting thru our southern border. What prompted Trump was that caravan that was making it's way thru Mexico to get into the U.S. from Central America. His actions will discourage more from trying. The stats I have read is that there has been a reduction in Mexicans coming here but instead there are now more Central Americans getting in here illegally.

Here's an interesting link. MS-13 members are from Central America.

No, no cuebald, didn't you know that Obama administration pencil dick's are planted in DC just manipulating all of the Federal data to make President Trump look bad?

Those secret Obama pencil dicks sure are canny!

They manipulated the data to make it look like illegal border crossings under Trump are at the lowest level since 1971!

And the nerve of those Obama plants trying to make it seem like President Trump has reduced illegal border crossings by 23% over Obama's last year in office!

Geez, those secret leftist Obama pencil dicks in DC will stop at nothing to discredit President Trump.

You probably won't even kill all the termites, they're pretty darn resilient! But at least you won't have a home for them to chew on.

Smart move by the President. Lets hope its a large force with necessary aircraft and surveillance measures.

On trade its puts negotiations in a different light. Mexico will know we are serious about both trade and securing the border.

It should allow more BP to secure the Ca border where the Gov. is likely not to cooperate.

Replace the "to sign" with "did sign" in the link as there are question that still apply.

Trump signs proclamation sending National Guard to Mexico border immediately | Fox News
So what? A presidential proclamation doesn't do anything. It's not a law; rather a statement of intent. Trump once again is acting like he rules a monarchy. He's pandering to his base, and they're eating it up as usual.

Addressing domestic laws and activities with the military, however, might run afoul of the Posse Comitatus Act (PCA), which prohibits use of the Armed Forces to perform the tasks of civilian law enforcement unless explicitly authorized. There are alternative legal authorities for deploying the National Guard, and the precise scope of permitted activities and funds may vary with the authority exercised.

And to Bush in 2006:

In 2006, in response to requests for support enforcing federal immigration laws from the governors of Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas, President George W. Bush announced the deployment of up to 6,000 National Guard troops along the southern border to support the Border Patrol. 3 During 2006–2008, more than 30,000 individuals participated in the mission “Operation Jump Start.”
The influx across the border was at an all time high around 2008/2009 what is the current emergency.

Yes, he did title 32 which asks for the governors to enact the NG, as opposed to Title 10 which federally activates them. Or vice versa.... I'm tired of looking stuff up. But it's the one where he asks the states to do it.

This was a reaction to the criticism by Coulter, Limbaugh. They were furious when the border wall funding was left out of the budget so he claimed he was sending in the troops yo appease them. No one believes this will actually happen.
