LOL! Conservatives trying their hardest to come up with excuses as to why the most liberal countries in the world have the highest standards of living in the world. Next thing you know they'll try to tell us Scandinavian countries are Fox News territory who would vote for Donald Trump in a landslide
Let's see ...
The 10 Most Liberal Countries Of The World
Norway #5
Sweden #6
Finland #8 (we'll call Finland a Scandinavian country for the purposes of showing another very liberal, Nordic nation that has a high standard of living, even though it's technically not Scandinavian)
Now this next one is a real doozey ...
The Most Liberal Countries You Should Move to in 2017
Iceland #1
Finland #2
Sweden #3
Norway #4

Now, here's the funny part: Click on the link and look at the least liberal (that is the most conservative) countries in the world!
Need I go on? I hope I don't have to. It's basically unanimous: Scandinavian countries are the most liberal in the world, overall. Whether you want to call them "socialist" or not is basically irrelevant: They are very liberal. Far left. Would make Bernie Sanders happy. Cons trying to make excuses as to why they have such a high standard of living while being so extremely liberal are simply desperate to try to explain something that does not fit their narrative.
I did not come up with my own definition of socialism. 'Socialism' is a well-defined English word which means in essence 'government ownership of the means of production.' I realize that most Americans, conservatives included, do not know what socialism is, even though they might use the term. That's not my fault, and not my problem. My posts reflect the correct definition.
Not your problem? You are parroting a false narrative with the title of this thread then !

That is more Communism, and not at all the definition of "Democratic Socialism", at any rate. Too many here do not know the difference between governmental systems and refuse to learn them. Intentional ignorance is is a severe problem in the United States.
Them white peoples countries sure be doin’ good!
It's always the same excuses for America's flaws - either it is not as "lily white" as other countries or the other countries have tiny populations and it wouldn't work in the US. Oftentimes a combination of both.
The Danish Prime Minister, after seeing Denmark misrepresented by a US candidate, said the following in late 2015:
None of the five Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, & Iceland) are socialist. Sweden had a flirtation via a plan called 'employee funds' in 1984. The plan would have amounted to a true socialist reform. But after a center-right government took over in 1991, the plan was abolished. Sweden made other free-market reforms during the 90s. Taxes were cut, and privatization measures were enacted. Sweden was once arguably the furthest to the left of the five, and now has school vouchers--to the right of even the US.
There is actually no unitary 'Nordic Model,' as often implied by US liberal pundits. The countries all have varying polices, and as with Sweden, have varied over time. This should not have been a surprise to these pundits in a country that elected Ronald Reagan in 1980, and Barack Obama in 2008.
The notion that the Scandinavians have figured out some magic formula under which 'socialism works' is yet another American liberal myth.
My mother saw that article and laughed long and hard before she yelled BS!! She is Danish, born in Denmark. I hold a US and Danish passport. Denmark is socialist. They have a market economy but they are socialist. Denmark garnishes your paycheck to set aside money for your vacation. You have no option but to comply. You take your vacation whether you want to or not. You have no option. You will comply. If you decide that working for a living is not our thing, you get free money. The government gives you other people’s money so you don’t have to shave away. Why bother when idiots will work to support you? That is the Danish mindset. Medicine is socialized there. If the doctor makes a mistake, too bad, we will try again to fix your problem in eight months or so. My mother’s sister died in agony with liver cancer after being diagnosed with gallstones. So sorry, nothing we can do for you.
Taxes are outrageous there. Not socialized. That PMs nose must be a mile long.
I call bull.. on mostly all your wrote.
Even though I live in Norway, Denmark and Norway have many of the same support systems.
Taxes are withheld, and then paid out when you take your vacation. Everybody has mandytory vacation.. and you treat it like its a bad thing that everybody has the right to a vacation.
Most likely, 1 week around Christmas, 1 week around easter and 3 weeks in the middle of the summer.
The government does not give you money. If you have a deblitiating injury or illness, where you can´t work, the state will support you. If you decide to not work.. guess what, you starve!
If your mothers sister lived in the US, would she be lucky enough to have enough insurance to get those things checked up? Or, would she be begging from money from her relatives or pawn here house? Or, would she even go to the hospital.
Misdiagnosing happens every single day, all over the world.
See post #57. I actually address your concern there. I agree that many conservatives have used the term 'socialist' without knowing what it means. As for links, they are in post #52. Most of the data comes from the book by Dr. Nima Sanadaji, a Swedish think tank head.
What am I try to accomplish? To debunk a mythical meme that I have often seen posted on CD.
Both the Sanandaji brothers are critizising social democracies and not the best choice if you want to learn about it´s economics.
If you asked the cons here if they would rather live in Alabama (a very conservative state), or in Denmark, I wonder how many would lie and say they would rather live in Alabama?
I'm a moderate leaning to the right of center and you couldn't pay me enough to live in Alabama.
