However in today's politics with so many liberal/leftists in control of the party, I shudder to think of how I could vote for one today.

The leftist media will try to convince you that it is the (R's) who went hard right, but in reality it is the (D's) who went hard left.
As a result it makes (R's) who try to stem the liberal tide seem more right than they are. For example, look no further back than the 1990's and Bill Clinton's agenda and the DNC platform. By today's (D) standards, they were conservative. Bill himself likely wouldn't have gotten the (D) nomination, and certainly not Truman, JFK, or LBJ.

Sure the (D's) always had the fringe loons that wanted every sexual perversion known to man to be approved of, but they were a small minority.
Today I'd even hesitate on saying (D's) would be against child molesters, as despicable as they are. Even if they agreed they should be removed from society, they would likely want to rehabilitate them or give them much light sentence then they deserve.

As to anything we agree on, national pride, a strong defense, adherence to our constitutional republics form of governance, and others should all be things we agree on. We certainly use to, and pragmatic politicians of the past would work together on those and other things.
Yet today with an avowed socialist in Bernie (who is actually more like a communist), and then with Hillary trying to get to the left of him to get the nomination, I do not think there is much we can agree on. At least not until the adults in the (D) party regain control from the leftist kooks who are in charge today.

Wow, even on a thread that is asking for things we all can agree on, you simply cannot resist going on a tirade about Democrats. Exhibit A of the problem right here, folks.

With recent developments regarding trade wars and all, I see signs that both sides are starting to agree that Trump is unfit to be president.

Very true. Statists hate freedom lovers. Combined with your love of violence it's a tough row to hoe.

No, statism. Anyone who believes in the legitimacy of an involuntary State to exist and rule over people.

It pleases me to see that Obama has taken up permanent residence in your head. I'm betting he's sharing that space with Hillary Clinton.

Because, unlike so many Republicans, I'm capable of critical thinking.
