Kim left the summit with the legitimacy of meeting as an equal with the President of the United States who bowed to him by agreeing to suspend joint military training with South Korea.
Trump left the meeting with a piece of paper with a vague pledge about working towards denuclearization at some point in the future.
What more could you expect? We are still holding their feet to the fire by not lifting any of the sanctions. We had to offer them something in return of good faith and suspending the training is a small gesture, I think.
How in the hell is he going to do that with no allies??

It will make it harder to rally support the next time we want to invade another sovereign nation that is true. I remember both with Bush 1 and 2 as well as Clinton how they would tout ally support claiming a coalition when we had 99% of the troops and our allies had 1%
Corporate interests dictate trade more than the talking heads from the G7. Yes I am a little troubled by Trump and what happened with the G7 but talk is cheap and the reality is the EU and Canada need us. And we need them. Nothing is going to change that.
1) NK is not getting rid of nukes.
2) Our troops are not coming home.
3) No NK citizens are being fed or living better lives.
This was nothing but a chance for Kim to show his people and the world he could stand up to Trump and get him to back off on joint military training.
Nothing else was accomplished.
They signed an agreement and NK is going to destroy a testing site. What more could you ask for in just an initial meeting? Reagan and Gorbachev didn't bring down the Berlin Wall in just the first meeting.
The separation of wheat from chaff has started. If people continue to spin potential failure they risk irrelevance. Trump studied and built a relationship with a man who clearly is a villain and yet found the remarkable instinct within the "enemy" to build a bridge to peace - by absolute strength and power.
Trump gets it. WE can no longer spend time with those who would suck the life energy from us with their dark rhetoric. I believe that these people are simply depressed. Depressed in the great news of today, depressed about their place in the world and depressed in their lives.

"Obama has just committed to stopping our military exercises so as to appease North Korea. We saw him bow also too and he wore a tan suit. Obama is selling the United States to the North Koreans. Obama has legitimized a dictator!" More doom music.

Then they would bring out everyone from Dick Cheney to Sarah Palin to say Obama is a Muslim Kenyan meeting with a North Korean and there would be clips of the final scene from War Games' Global Thermonuclear War.
The drumbeat would increase daily so as to create a tension so intense that Orly Taitz would be leading a parade of tiki torches in no time.

Even Eric Erickson admits if Obama had done this, Republicans would have called for his impeachment.
