No. I can have melancholy because my dog died or my football team lost or my boyfriend had an affair.

That is not the same as depression.

Again, you miss the big picture. Plenty of opportunities to provide services for people who live longer healthier lives. Imagine being able to be healthy and happy and able to work into your 80s with no ill effect or stress knowing that you have that much more time to save for eventual retirement and maybe even spend more time in the retirement years than the working years and being relatively healthy?

If everyone thought like you long ago, the plague would have ended the human race.

They can support themselves. DH is 74 and working more than 40 hours per week. We have friends and relatives in the same age bracket who are totally self-sufficient.

I don't understand your point in regards to the conversation.
That's true about schizophrenia, too. The point is, it's been proven over and over, that this industry renames diagnosises and even makes up more than a few, to sell their drugs. They do many things right but knowing about this unethical practice requires a healthy dose of scepticism.

No. They were just wrong about things in the past. Melancholy is not depressions, schizophrenia is not possession by demons... the list is very long.

I'd say the issue stems from the US being one of the few if not only modern industrialized nations where healthcare is a for profit industry.
And because of that The price of Lasik surgery has gone down over 100% in the last 20 years. The people at Goldman Sachs are just greed heads. Greed knows no color, no race, no religion, no political affiliation.

The docs do the curing. I know very few docs that consider the pharma stock price when treating patients.

Lasik is one of the few medical procedures that have actually price benefited due to new technologies. Cataracts too. Both are very fast procedures these days.
