My thought as well. How can you NOT know your way to a school you go to ever weekday? At 14! I'm thinking he was looking for an empty house to burgle and this was a good excuse. Either that or he's just particularly stupid.
On the odd chance that the news report is actually true-the homeowner should be prosecuted.
In what way?
The man suspected the kid was going to do something wrong. The kid was a suspect to the man. The kid was fleeing from the man.
There was no indication the teen was going to do something wrong. Even if he was planning to do something wrong (which he wasn’t), you don’t shoot at a fleeing person.

Why not? Cops do it routinely, even shoot people in the back multiple times, and walk away without consequences. It seems this is acceptable in America now.

That is what I said! But lkb0714 took issue with my language. I wanted to know why.
Lock up the shooter. Things like that make me weary about raising children on the mainland. That kind of stuff simply does not happen where I am.

The above attitude is what lands people in jail for being unnecessarily violent.
If he’s 14, he is a freshman and has been attending the school for less than a year. If he has always taken the bus, it’s likely that he is not memorizing the route. I was taking a coworker home and we got lost because she was accustomed to taking the train. She walked all over the area to get items but just could not direct me from the car. A police officer ended up helping us find her house.

Yes it is.
In Chicago, New York, Baltimore, LA and most other major US cities.
Once you figure out how some parts of the country can get away with it more effectively than others, you'll have reached a grim realization. One you may just not be able to face.
