Even that is not necessarily indicative of racism.

Unless they believed that any dark-skinned person on her porch is there to rob her because robbing people is caused by being dark-skinned, the fear is ignorant rather than racist.

Sorry to belabor this. The over-use and expansion of the definition of racism is one of my pet peeves.

Ignorance and stupidity and paranoia is the mix you're looking for, I think. Yes, its quite special!

Sheesh!

How the N.R.A. Uses Fear to Sell Guns
There are millions of violent criminals in America. It would be nice if there was a way to funnel them toward the homes of those who mock people who are concerned about the problem.

It'd funny, 14 year old girls are old and SMART enough to decide if they want to have an abortion without even telling their parents but a 14 year old boy doesn't know how to get to his school!

The general public do not get to label kids suspects when they literally have done nothing wrong. Suspect as in the phrase “fleeing suspect” has a specific meaning referring to the commission of a crime. A meaning that does not apply to this teenager at all and is telling because you chose to apply it to him. You know why you see him as a suspect. We all know why you feel that way.

Nothing wrong with protecting your house but yeesh!. Should someone have their gun rights revoked for being so overzealous?
The guy followed Joe Biden's advice. You know JB, lawyer, VPOTUS. If you can't trust Joe, who can you trust?

Of course if you followed biden's advice you'd be guilty of a felony, aggravated assault.

Wonder if he will use 'the biden defense'??????

Joe Biden recommended today that "if you want to protect yourself, get a double barrel shotgun":

"If there's ever a problem," Biden said he told his wife Jill, "just walk out on the balcony here--walk out, put that double barrel shot gun and fire two blasts outside the house -- I promise you whoever is coming in ... You don't need an AR-15, it's harder to aim, it's harder to use...Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!"

You know public schools should have a basic firearms safety class taught. Statistically speaking, at some point most people will encounter a firearm in their lives in some way. Safe handling, etc., should be covered, but also cover the laws that apply to owning and using one. A lot of people are totally ignorant of the laws applicable to self defense use of a firearm, the laws regulating purchasing them, etc. No reason the schools can't cover this.

My son is a HS freshman. The school is about 4 miles away. I had him walk the route one day in case he was ever in a situation where he missed the bus and he couldn't find a ride. But it's totally believable that a kid that age hasn't paid attention to the route and was looking for some help.

Kids today just aren't as aware of what's going on around them as they were a generation ago. Not that they're more stupid, they're just not used to rational thinking and using reasoning to solve problems. He probably zoned out the second he got on the school bus and looked at his cell phone and it was very believable he had no idea where his school was. That doesn't make him stupid, just... clueless.
So he was lost and didn't realize that maybe knocking on a strange door might not be the best idea. Many people will not answer the door to someone they don't know. And many break ins are done knocking on the door to see if someone's home or not.
Was race a factor here? Possibly, but not definitely. This is where all the lackwits who play the race card immediately and without thought hurt their argument when it may actually happen. The kid didn't look like a thug. If a shady looking white guy had knocked on the same door the reaction would probably have been the same. And if the homeowner had fired a warning shot to scare off who he perceived was a threat that lowers any charges he may be facing automatically. He's in big trouble, but expect a plea deal down to much lesser charges. Or maybe a sympathetic DA will keep the charges as is knowing the jury may well refuse to convict. Too bad he's not a cop.
This is why having a firearm is a big responsibility and its use is not to be taken lightly.
