They do have extremely high taxes but on some metrics they do very well.

The Democrats that run in NYC and Boston despite many flaws, also do some things very well.

Republicans are in general much better at operating cities and states overall though.

Sadly, lots and lots of Democratic failures out there that far out number failed Republican cities.
How so, since red states are among the poorest.

The two best mayors of my lifetime were #1 Bloomberg and #2 Giuliani, and initially both ran as Republicans. Of course, now Bloomberg is an independent, and Giuliani’s nuts.

The city tore down Cabrini Green and many other high-rise housing projects. Their residents were dispersed throughout other poor areas, through section 8. That’s ONE of the reasons the violence spiked. The city effectively moved gang members into rival gang territory.

Yes and no. Manhattan doesn’t have significantly fewer poor people than it had 10-20 years ago. It has significantly fewer middle-class people. Those are the people who have been pushed out of the city.

I think it's wonderful.

There's a strong connection between having an average house price above $2M with keeping murderous criminals out...crack and meth heads can't afford to live in Manhattan so they leave to find cheaper accommodations.

Imagine being so wrong. New York County (aka Manhattan) has an 18% poverty rate. That’s 283k people living in poverty, in the space of 23 sq miles. New York has low crime rates because it has good schools, social programs, access to amenities and tough gun laws in and around the city.

Wow, amazing how low the homicide rate has gotten in New York City. The borough of Manhattan especially.

To bad, LAPD fails at controlling crime like the NYPD. Los Angeles has had 65 homicides this year, which is 6 times the rate of Manhattan on a per-capita basis.

http://assets.lapdonline.org/assets/pdf/cityprof.pdf

Las Vegas Metro Police Jurisdiction which has 1.6 million people just like Manhattan, has had 56 homicides which is 14 times the rate of Manhattan.

https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/...ral-las-vegas/

With 1.6 million people, they have only had 4 homicides this year.

Homicide in Manhattan is down 97% since 1990.

At least there a few good Democrats out there running cities.
Your first 2 cites are ONLY individual districts.

I don't know why you cite Las Vegas.

"In February and March, 37 people were killed in London, compared to 35 in the Big Apple, according to the Sunday Times.
