You can bet that a lot of people in the GOP are looking for a graceful way to separate themselves from Trump. They never wanted him in the first place, but he was forced on them and now they are seeing the damage he is doing to not only their party, but the country.

The handwriting is on the wall, Trump is going to go, it is inevitable. No man or party can survive the vast number of revelations coming out about corruption, dishonesty, and self service that this administration has caused for the past 16 months.

I am not sure that impeachment will be the final act, perhaps so much heat will be put on Trump that he will elect to take a plea and leave, in exchange for not being prosecuted. That is looking like the most likely scenario right now.

If the Republican party impeaches Trump, they will lose Trump's base of voters. That's a given.

While it would save the nation from this incompetent, corrupt con man, Republicans would have to rebuild their party and that could take some time.

With information emerging about Russian money funneled to the RNC, it is not clear that taking down Trump wouldn't also implicate the RNC as well.

Republicans got their massive and permanent corporate tax cuts and their seat on the Supreme Court, maybe they'll be able to gut Medicare and Social Security before this is all said and done.

So why give up now?

I don't care how he goes but he is tearing this country apart and he has to go

Patience, OP. Impeachment is coming down the road. Trump isn't finished shooting himself in the foot yet. Plus it's going to take a little more hard evidence coming out before the Republicans lawmakers jump the sinking ship. His fan base will go down with the ship, though, no matter what.

I was certainly against the impeachment of President Clinton for lying about his affair, when the investigation was supposed to be about White Water.

As for Mr. Trump: As it stands now, there is no basis for the House to draw up articles of impeachment. One cannot 'impeach' based on innuendos and speculation. I think, for instance, that Representative Maxine Waters should keep quiet about such talk.

Of course, as I have stated before, I think it very likely that Mr. Trump was 'kept out of the loop' concerning what the members of his campaign were doing with Wikileaks and Russians. Mr. Trump's people were certainly aware, of should have been aware, that Mr. Trump has a tendency to shoot off his mouth without thinking of the implications.

As such, we must wait and see if, like with Mr. Nixon (whom did not order the break-in of the DNC located in the Watergate complex), Mr. Trump 1) discovered after the fact any illicit activity undertaken by Manafort et al, and, 2) whether Mr. Trump then engaged in 'obstruction of justice' by helping to 'cover up' the activities.
I agree with you that we need to cease talk of impeachment.

Even though the evidence is fairly clear that Trump was attempting to obstruct justice by firing Comey, I think this needs to be decided at the ballot box.

However, I disagree with your assertion that Nixon did not order the Watergate break-in of the DNC. Nixon resigned. Then Ford pardoned him, and the investigation was called off before we were ever told whether he ordered the burglary or not.

As far as we know, that question still has not been answered.

Embarrassment is not grounds for impeachment.

My crystal ball says the investigation will eventually conclude with insufficient evidence to charge Trump with a single crime. It will however, take down the homegrown swamp who participated in his campaign.

I can see that I all so believe it will lead to other crimes and "obstruction of Justice" charges
