The stores I've been in are very small and don't have a plethora of food items. Good prices though.

The stores around here are slightly higher than.mom and pops and have poor inventory management. It is of no benefit to me when on the one in ten chance they actually have any dog food in stock only to wait being someone on their sixth declined credit card trying to by Skoal Chewing tabacco.

I haven't seen a "local grocery store" in years.

Two managers work on salary a lot of hours. Others get 8-10 hours a week.

Its more complected than that.

There are lots of reasons local Grocery stores are going out of business. How many actual local grocery stores are there at this point?

Ones I have seen in towns where I have business are either IGA groceries or Cost Plus stores part of a regional chain. I have not seen a real independent grocery store for quite a while.

Dollar Generals do not sell everything a grocery store does. Between them and Walmart I would guess it would be very difficult for a local grocery store to survive.

But everything from hardware to home improvement to restaurants all under attack from national chains. And all of them are under attack from Amazon, eBay and Walmart.

Welcome to the future.

Ehhh...I’ve yet to see a Dollar General with good prices. Dollar General and Family Dollar are high. That’s a place to pick up items when you just don’t have time to run out to Walmart or a regular grocery store.

Dollar General sells groceries ? Who knew ? I buy my cleaning supplies there, they are some of the best going for getting grease and grime out, much better than the national brands.

I also haven't seen a local grocery store in decades.

The managers are basically at work 24/7. The one manager of our local DG makes about 38k a year, and they work her nearly to death. I don’t see why she puts up with it. She’d do better getting full time hours at Wendy’s. At least she’d get a few days off a week.

Those dollar stores will shave years off of your life trying to manage them. It’s not worth it.
