Trump will pardon him if the feds charge him. He only flips if the state can charge him with something serious. I don't see it happening but anything is possible.
Can't he be disbarred for violating lawyer/client privilege if he does?
unprompted cohen claimed that trump had no knowledge of the settlement agreement with stormy danials, effectively nullifying the agreement.
"smart" is not a description i'd use for cohen.
Agreed.
He has a law degree, but practicing law is not his strong suit, a paralegal could do that part of his job. The Trump Organization had him on like some companies have a clerk in place who is also a Notary. Much more convenient for the routine mundane paper filings and such, which are all based off of templates. That and a Xerox and he has a 'law department'.
Correct. Michael Cohen is a married man with a daughter in her 20's. Doing 10-15 years in federal prison means he could miss out on major milestones like his daughter's marriage and the birth of his grandchildren.
As of today, we have no idea how serious the crimes are that Cohen will be facing. But if a magistrate approved a "no knock" search warrant, meaning that there was reason to believe Cohen would try to hide or destroy evidence, and that they got approval to raid all of his properties, one can assume Cohen will most likely be prosecuted as they'll have enough to convict him.
However, Cohen, like Manafort, might either be betting on a presidential pardon from POTUS Trump, or he might fear for his life and the safety of his family, and decide not to cooperate.
This is a political thriller type of situation straight out of a Tom Clancy novel. Support Donald Trump or not, one cannot deny that his entire presidency has been a whirlwind of controversy and riddled with (alleged) scandal.
That is why I haven't voted yet. I really don't know how deep in with the Russians he is.

He seems to have a problem with that. He seems to do everything on impulse and doesn't think of the consequences.
Staff try to rein him in from impulsive acts as much as possible, and he clearly resents that. This in spite of the fact that they are trying to save him.
He is also quite vengeful, so he doesn't merely want to change circumstances around him, he tries to make it painful for those who frustrate him.
He is like 'Moe' of the Three Stooges, not any smarter, but meaner.
Everyone keeps forgetting it seems pardons don't stop people from being forced to spill the beans.
Quite true. (Also, he can't pardon foreign actors.)
The special counsel Robert Mueller is homing in on two key events in which Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, was extensively involved, The Washington Post reported.
The first relates to the Trump Organization's push to secure a Trump Tower deal in Moscow in late 2015 and early 2016.
The second relates to a Russia-friendly "peace plan" for Russia and Ukraine that Cohen and two others were said to be instrumental in pushing for early last year.
"...The second relates to what The New York Times has described as a "peace plan for Ukraine and Russia" that Cohen was said to have been instrumental in developing and hand-delivering to Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser, before Flynn was forced to resign last year. ..."
Mueller is drilling down on 2 pivotal events in the Russia investigation involving Trump's longtime personal lawyer
If Trump were the innocent victim of conspiracy so many claim, there would be no concern about "flipping".
However, even Trump States Cohen is not the kind of person that would "flip" which is tantamount to admitting there is something there to uncover.
