Starbucks is closing all its stores nationwide on May 29 after an incident in which two black men were arrested at a Philadelphia location.
The coffee giant on Tuesday announced plans to close all US stores for the afternoon of May 29. Starbucks said in a statement it plans to "conduct racial-bias education geared toward preventing discrimination in our stores."
"The training will be provided to nearly 175,000 partners (employees) across the country, and will become part of the onboarding process for new partners," Starbucks said in a statement.
The training will cover topics such as "implicit bias" and "conscious inclusion."
Thank goodness it is fat Trump, and not fat Hillary! I am sure their stock holders LOVE the money they will be losing, and needlessly spending on "training".
Couldn't agree more. if Hillary had won, the Democrats would have been in shambles. The majority in the house and Senate would have increased, and you guys would have taken the Presidency in 2020 with a majority that required no Democrat votes.
Now, It's been a fun 16 months, that will only get more enjoyable as the Democrats take back each branch of government from a proven, treasonous traitors and their supporters.
What Starbucks needs to work on is lowering their ridiculous prices.
Oh come on (and you aren't the only one to mention this on this thread). If you have a registered Starbucks card, you are entitled to unlimited free refills during the same visit..which could theoretically last the entire time the lobby is open. With unlimited free refills, it doesn't matter which size you originally purchase. There are at least 7 beverages I can think of off the top of my head that fall under this policy (regular coffee, decaf coffee, four different types of iced tea, and one hot tea)...the total cost...$2.00 including tax if you bring your own cup, and $2.11 if you don't. And you don't have to stick with the beverage you originally purchased, you can switch between any of the beverages that fall under the policy for your refills.
That's awesome.
At least they are taking steps to recognise the problem.
Good for them.
Agree with this.
Closing down all stores nationwide seems a bit excessive, couldn't they have a mandatory all-hands meeting before or after closing for a 1-2 hour training session? Closing all stores down nationwide is a ton of profit lost.
Oh well, the CEO thinks this is a positive, and his opinion is all that really matters. If Starbucks senior leadership thinks it will help prevent what happened in Philadelphia from happening again, I support it.
Seems a bit dramatic to close them all at once - but maybe that was the plan. Having worked for 2 big Fortune 500 companies - some kind of 'diversity' training was always mandatory.
Could they also train their baristas to leave their attitudes at home? Some of their baristas’ attitudes towards their customers are worse than customer service I received in France in the 1990s.
^^^^^ It happens, but very rarely in my experience.
Will the Rev Al Sharton and Rev Jess Jackson be getting free SB franchises or will they be simply shaking SBs down for a big contribution to their respective "churches"?
