This. He can take off the uniform and preach in the most gay-hating congregation that ever gay-hated. Or he can shut his piehole and take orders as befits a soldier.

According to Southern Baptist memorandum released in 2013, “NAMB endorsed chaplains will not conduct or attend a wedding ceremony for any same sex couple, bless such a union or perform counseling in support of such a union, assist or support paid contractors or volunteers leading same-sex relational events, nor offer any kind of relationship training or retreat, on or off a military installation, that would give the appearance of accepting the homosexual lifestyle or sexual wrongdoing.”
And that was fine when he first signed on as Chaplain but obviously times have changed. He's going to lose either his job or his endorsement from his church.

Which is why I said what I did. I'm not saying that military regs outweigh religious belief. Just that all jobs may not be suitable for a person who places religious belief ahead of secular law.
And while it's true the article says "what the army did goes against federal law", the article writer may not be correct. After all, the american military includes christians who don't believe that christianity requires condemnation of same sex marriage, let alone people of other faiths who don't believe that. As a chaplain, he is required to serve all members of the military, not just a subset of christians.

Absolutely. Just do your job Chaplain or give it to someone who will .
A military investigation at Fort Bragg determined Chaplain Scott Squires should be disciplined for his failure to include a lesbian couple in the Strong Bonds Marriage Retreat. They determined he had discriminated against a soldier based on her sexual orientation.
When Squires realized he could not participate, he rescheduled the event to accommodate the lesbian couple with a chaplain who could oversee the retreat. But apparently – that was not good enough.

Which is exactly what the chaplain (who, via the nature of the job, cannot be expected to serve all strains of faith) offered to do!

But what we have here, as usual, is a militant minority group -- part of a coalition of ideolouges who believe that might makes right -- determined to punish and silence anyone who refuses to bow to their absolutes; "live and let live" isn't sufficient for their authoritarian dreams and never will be. They resent other people's convictions with which they don't agree, but will gladly suck up to unjustified power if it can be used to further their aim.
In an open economy, or an open society, unworkable beliefs and plans fall by the wayside due to their own rigidity -- no intervention driven by unjustified power is necessary. But as usual, it is the militant losers who seek to get their way at the expense of the everyone else; this is the essential difference between the closeted Fascists who call themselves "progressive"-- and the rest of the world,

Now it's true that many people think that the military thinks that "might makes right". However, I think you're being unduly harsh toward the military investigative team that determined that the chaplain should be disciplined for disregarding military regs.
