She was a nice lady, a great lady, the wife AND the mother of the President of the United States. But these days it seems that the whole concept of flying a flag at half staff has lost it's meaning. When my husband saw the large flag that is located at our local bank flying at half staff he asked me, sarcastically, if it was for the guy that used to be on Night Court. I rest my case. (no pun intended)
Reagan started changing the tradition and it's continued, so I'm surprised you're only now noticing this.
Obama called for the flag to be flown at half-mast 66 times. Bush, 58 or 59 and Clinton 50. Obama flew it at half-mast when Nancy Reagan died, in fact. Maybe you didn't notice it at that time?

Good thing they are not cremating her. The place would blow up. Barb liked her alcohol. One of the reasons her and Nancy didn't get along.
With all the crap going on in the world these days, wouldn't it just be much easier to keep the flag at half staff permanently so as not to offend any sensibilities? It seems to be in that position more often anyway lately.
