Isn't Cruz just being like many Trump supporters ? Cruz knows that Trump is President, he might be crud and crass at times but he is still the President and it is better to be on his side then against him in some ridiculous "resist" posture and Cruz knows that the alternative to Trump was a disaster.
Trump, You grin and bear him and make the best of him. That is what politicians do best.
Cruz doesn't really have any other option. If his attacks on Trump (which were laughable in comparison) are still fresh in the minds of the Texan voters that came out to the polls to support Trump just two years ago, they might not show up to support Cruz.
If O' Rourke's polling numbers weren't as close, Cruz could afford to not support Trump. But given the current situation, he is given no other choice but trade away his dignity and integrity.
Then again, on the way into the Capitol there's a trash bin designed specifically for depositing one's dignity and integrity. So he's not alone.
Cruz had more votes in the primary than all the Democrat candidates combined.
While that is a true statement, there isn't a strong correlation between primary vote totals and general election vote totals:
Take 1980:
Jimmy Carter alone had ~10M votes in the primary
All Republican candidates had ~11M votes.
Carter had nearly as many votes (similar to Cruz) as all Republican candidates.
Even better, Kennedy had ~7M votes as well. So, collectively, there were 6M more Democratic primary votes than Republican ones.
However, Reagan wiped the floor with Carter in the 1980 election, winning by 9%. And that's just the first example I found. There are others but I think one alone proves the point.
Don't look into the volume of primary voters. It really doesn't matter as much as you might think.

I voted in GOP primary for Trump because I hated Cruz and thought Trump would NEVER win GOP nomination
Never underestimate the IQ of the public
How does this guy live with himself? Trump said his Cruz's father was a murderer and mocked his wife's looks and Cruz is fawning all over him. Disgusting. It's one thing to go after your opponent, even though trump usually stoops to personal insults and not anything substantive. But remember Ted's tough talk after trump tweeted out an unflattering picture of Heidi? And now here he is, on his knees worshipping at trump's altar.
Cruz is a dishrag, a doormat. He is about the weakest human being on the planet.
All I can say is, Thank GOD he didn't win this election. He has no spine.

Cruz is a spineless weasel.
It hasn't gone unnoticed down here Texas way, how tRump trashed his wife and pa, then Cruz rolls over and licks tRump's boots.

The ONLY time Ted Cruz ever showed some courage was during the DNC when he refused to endorse Trump by name. That was his 15 minutes of fame, and then he went right back to having his hat in his hands and kissing Trump's boots.
He even looks shady.
