They don't, but they do carry AR-15 type weapons such as the SIG516 and LMT Defender.

If they could stop people from texting while driving they would save 10x the lives that guns take.

No.

Growing up means that you realize that banning certain types of guns is never going to stop mass murders.

Take away guns and people bent on killing others will find other, possibly even more lethal means of accomplishing their goals.

I don't know your police agencies, nor their equipment, but they MAY have the ability for burst, or select fire auto. If not, what's your point? That a few police use a semi auto rifle? The purpose of the U.S. 2A was to put private citizens in a capacity where they could at least deter foreign, or domestic governments from abuse, and tyranny. Something sadly lacking in the UK, and Europe.

My point was in relation to this post, as some police and indeed military use weapons such as the SIG516 which is based on the AR15.

Check to see if you can become a citizen in Australia. I'm thinking... nope

The Sig 516 is available in FULL AUTO, select fire versions.

Quote:
The SIG 516 Patrol used for this test was a select fire version that had been tracked with over 20,000 rounds fired through it and was still capable of 2.25 inches at 100 yards with military grade ammunition.

BASED ON....... that is not using the AR as an issued weapon. Police are not military. The point here is the incorrect use of the term "military weapon" when speaking of the AR platform to elicit an emotional response.

Without the fun switch they are carrying deer rifles same as my 740 Remington. Which, btw packs a huge punch over the .223.

The Police won't want it in full auto mode, as they need to avoid civilian casualities in built up areas.

The AR-15 is just the ArmaLite Rifle-15, and military do use varianys, indeed the UK Military use the L129A1 based on the Stoner ArmaLite's AR-10.

L129A1 Sharpshooter - Modern Firearms

You don't often here the term Armalite used these days as the company sold the designs on, but that's what it is, and there are over 12 million in the US.

US Company Lewis Machine Tools (LMT) supplied 3,000 to the British Army as well as supplying the AR-15 based Defender to the British Transport Police.

We hope to eliminate the indiscriminate availability of guns.

It is a long term process, the first step being to change the people in Washington.

Probably take one hundred years to get the mess cleaned up, but you have to start somewhere.

Short term solution might be controls on guns such that only the well vetted original purchaser can fire the weapon. Magazines on said lever or bolt action guns will limited to a half dozen or so bullets.

In more urban areas guns and ammo might be checked in at the range where use is controlled. You take the gun out with a measured number of bullets; you return it with casings and unused ammo. Gun use is thereby monitored and the weapon itself is taken off the street.

No system is perfect, but the objective is to reduce gun deaths by finding solutions which allow gun owners access to their weapons while protecting more of the public from insane slaughter.
