The US has lost its position as a beacon of freedom. Trump has dimmed the light of freedom here and abroad.

The biggest effect harming press freedom is being done by a press that has become speculation media.
A change from the time it was preforming as a news media.
Occasionally they throw in a fact and speculate to no end on how you should view that fact.

The socialist anarchy democrats have captured the largest part of media and use it as a political weapon against political opponents. No longer the watch dog, they have become the lapdog of democrat party government to the point they act more like state run media in or out of power.
Media in cooperation with Democrats speak with one voice for one end. To be the only voice heard and to be a one party ruled nation. If successful they will be able to transform the nation and eliminate freedom altogether. The only thing standing in their way is opposition media, which is the most popular, yet few in number.

I am not sure that the press treaded as lightly on the Obama administration as you insinuate. Obama himself was not exactly a paragon of openness. However, let's face it, Obama never had the scandals this administration had and if he had, I would have been behind the press all the way.

I have never been anti-press. Investigate away.

I have more a problem with the likes of Judith Miller who wrote stories favorable to the US invasion of Iraq and was a George W. shill.

Is that the type of journalist you wish to see?

Just what are these scores supposed to mean, anyway? I saw no explanation of their metrics. Anyone can manipulate statistics to show anything they want.

The type of journalist I would like to see is Peter Jennings prior to the MJ and OJ stories... no really. It's those two stories that have given us the sensationalist garbage so common in the news today.

No argument here. The news business has changed a lot since then and is in constant change now.

That there are no Cronkites or Jennings anymore does not mean that journalism is dead.

There are still good journalists out there.

When Trump attacks a journalist I take it as that journalist did his/her job, and did it well.

Why do you assume that?

Sometime prior to the election, I want to say it was the summer of 2016, Trump tweeted something (I can't for the life of me remember what it was), and in reporting it, media outlets (can't remember how many) misleadingly entirely left out of their reporting the second half of his tweet, making whatever he said look way worse than what he actually said. I will try to find something regarding this incident but no promises at this point. I'm pretty sure it was discussed on some CD thread, maybe I'll try to do a search but I won't look that hard, though it was quite remarkable. Many Trump haters had even agreed that the media messed up in trying to mislead people regarding what he was saying. You know it's bad when his haters concede something.

One or two examples of a mistake does not tarnish the entire profession. Journalists make mistakes, but they issue corrections and retractions.

Trump and his 2,000+ lies makes journalists and the journalists that hold him accountable all that more important.

When was the last time Trump issued a retraction or correction?

Undoubtedly but for everyone of them there is ten journalists pushing an agenda. At this point in time the only news source I have any trust in is Frontline on PBS. It's the only one that will present both sides of a story, the whole story and nothing but the story. They don't pull punches, it's well researched and excellent interviews. There is nothing even remotely comparable anywhere including the other sources of news on PBS/NPR.

So it was a "mistake" to omit an entire half of a single tweet? When it changed the meaning, or at least interpretation of what he was saying?

I think you are as biased as many journalists lol.

And what if Trump has a hard time trusting them because of the stuff they've pulled with him, like my aforementioned incident? It's no secret that most media outlets were against him during the 2016 campaign and election season. Why should he let that stand? Why can't he "fight" back, point out their bias, or question them?

I don't about know the tweet you are talking about. Are you disparaging the entire profession because of one poorly covered tweet?
