No, it isn’t inaccurate. My point was spot on.

Uhhh...we’ve only ever had civilian SecDefs...as it should be.

Frankly, McNamara was no worse than Rumsfeld.
I guess we don't even want to mention Dick cheney..........another excellent civilian choice..............

Please. I did actual military service. You didn’t.

This thread is about appointing active duty military members to cabinet level positions. Pay attention.

Lol...that’s funny. No doubt you supported Dick Cheney at the time. You supported Rumsfeld too.

Cheney? Rumsfeld? hardly. My voting record and political support is as varied as it can get. Those two were not on the list.............I agreed with my father at the time Bush picked him as VP...........Bush is just an idiot........cheney is the real president and he is a crook. As they say follow the money............

Amen, brother. The American worship of the military is over-the-top. We want to know why our military budget is so bloated? Start with America's religious devotion to soldiers and war. We don't have the draft; people choose to enter the military. It is a job. It is a very good one, not high paying, but one that offers benefits many civilians can only dream about. I respect good soldiers, but I respect good employees of all kinds. It takes all kinds of dedicated workers to keep America functioning. And to all of these dedicated workers, I thank you for your service.

Military members are also tax payers.

You're right. There is no draft that requires them to join the military. My husband joined because it was what he was meant to do. He's always had a passion for it and he loves his job.

Gotcha, I see your point. The military person in question should resign their commission before accepting a position. It is a conflict of interest.
